Chapel Porth – Surfer, Dog and Waves

Yet another glorious February day and we went off to Chapel Porth where the car park was very full. We watched a surfer limbering up, a dog playing with a ball in the waves and the waves, the waves!

I was so pleased to catch this one of the unknown surfer jumping out of the water as part of his warm-up exercises then off into the surf.

This little dog had a brilliant time chasing and fetching the ball. I love this photo, just one foot on the floor and the reflection so clear.

The waves are always mesmerising – the sound, the feel of the spray, the running up-beach to escape the encroaching tide  and the power.

Housel Bay Day 3, Colours of Kynance and Lichen

Our third day and we had a walk around Kynance Cove before heading for home. Kynance has always been a family favourite and today the colours were as lovely as ever even though the sunshine of the last few days had disappeared. We liked the lichen patterns too.  This is the view from our room this morning.

The sea is always turquoise here.

The Serpentine is very beautiful in this Cove.

These three days have been just wonderful – totally challenging and I ache all over the place – but just think – two years ago I couldn’t even have contemplated these Cornish coast path walks. Two new hips and two years on and I can do it! I can do some really challenging walks and survive!

Housel Bay Holiday 2

Today our first beautifully sunny walk was along the coast path to Church Cove where the Church of St Wynwallow, partly 14th century, was to be found.

Looking back towards the hotel at the start of our walk.

We saw dolphins today! Sadly, I am having difficulties adding photos again today. Even Flickr isn’t working. I will try again tomorrow.

Housel Bay Holiday

We are having three nights away on a 3 for 2 deal for the lovely Mr S’s birthday. We are only 40 minutes from home in a hotel overlooking the sea and with the coastal path moments away. Today we did a circular walk of a couple of hours on the path around The Lizard. Our room is lovely, we have watched boats go by, seen the sunset and the lighthouse light become brighter and now it’s time for dinner!

I think this house along the path may well feel the spray!

The view from our room! The Lizard Lighthouse from our room. Let’s hope for another glorious day tomorrow.

Together, Spring Flowers and Valentine’s Day

In the last couple of hours before the family left this morning, LiveWire T wanted to do a bit more on her embroidery.

Spring is on the way! We have Tete a Tete daffodils, Iris Reticulata and Snowdrops brightening the back garden.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all my readers. This is the 50th Valentine’s Day that the lovely Mr S and I have been together!

Peace, A New Book and More Embroidery

Yesterday we collected flat pebbles at Portreath and today LiveWire T wrote kind and loving  words on them.

This morning the family went to visit The Poldark Mine and found it fascinating. I couldn’t go as I had to go to my Pilates class which helps me stay mobile!  LiveWire J was full of information that he had learned and was very struck by the fact that boys his age had to go down the mine to work!  We feel that the time is ripe for him to be given my Dad’s, his Great Grandfather’s novel, Jeremy Visick to read. He has promised to look after it and to tell me how he gets on with it.

LiveWire T has continued to work on her free embroidery and is taking great care with each stitch. This is our last day with them so we will need to finish it off early tomorrow morning before they leave at 9.30.

Love, Baking and Creating

The LiveWires keep us amused, and busy, all day! It fills my heart up to have them visiting and I just love how a sleepy little girl creeps into bed with me first thing in the morning and snuggles down saying, “I could stay in here for ever!”

Love and Pooh Bear

We made Chocolate Croissants for breakfast and Banana and Raisin Buns for tea.

While I was making the evening meal, LiveWire T amused herself folding paper and made a cat!

Bunk Bedding, A Sculpture and A Poem

I love getting the beds ready for LiveWire visits! As I write they are on the train and will be here soon and the bunk beds are ready with their favourite bedding.

Our neighbours are sculptors and quite often build something in the garden before it goes off to its new home. Here are the legs of the next big thing! Check out their website http://www.peteandsuehill.co.uk/ to find out who these enormous legs are going to belong to!

Today’s  poem is by Fleur Adcock and is in Poem for the Day Two for February 10th. I love the lines “your gentleness  is moulded still by words/from me”  What a responsibility we have to the world to teach our children to be kind and gentle.

For a Five-Year-Old

by Fleur Adcock

A snail is climbing up the window-sill
into your room, after a night of rain.
You call me in to see and I explain
that it would be unkind to leave it there:
it might crawl to the floor; we must take care
that no one squashes it. You understand,
and carry it outside, with careful hand,
to eat a daffodil.

I see, then, that a kind of faith prevails:
your gentleness is moulded still by words
from me, who have trapped mice and shot wild birds,
from me, who drowned your kittens, who betrayed
your closest relatives and who purveyed
the harshest kind of truth to many another,
But that is how things are: I am your mother,
And we are kind to snails.

Paper Lanterns, Snowdrops and Tennyson

After the annual Lantern Parade in Truro before Christmas, two of the lanterns have been put up in the Lemon Street Market, Pegasus in the background and a Lion in the foreground. The theme for the lanterns last year was stories. Perhaps this is Aslan from C S Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

DSCN9780

There are snowdrops popping up all over the place.

DSCN9718

Tennyson welcomed them with this delightful poem.

The Snowdrop – Alfred Lord Tennyson

Many, many welcomes,
February fair-maid!
Ever as of old time,
Solitary firstling,
Coming in the cold time,
Prophet of the gay time,
Prophet of the May time,
Prophet of the roses,
Many, many welcomes,
February fair-maid!
