Near and Far, Signs of Autumn and Fabulous Fabrics

11 Sep

1  Sweet smelling mustard seed flowers in the foreground, our house in the middle and The Atlantic Ocean, just visible along the horizon. You’ll probably have to click to enlarge to see it as it was rather a grey day.

Near and Far

2   Signs of Autumn all along the Flat Lode Trail round the back of our house, seed heads and berries and a chill in the air.

Feathery seed head

Beautiful Autumny red berries of the Hawthorn

More red berries

Blackberries

3   The new fabric shop in Redruth called out to me as I went by. I tried to resist going in but the call was too great!

Fabric for children

Sea-side themed fabrics

More that I like

Fabrics can be so wonderful — I carried several favourite pieces from city to city over decades – thought I’d use them someday, but really just because they were beautiful. I finally succumbed and put them out in a yard sale a few years ago!

Love all the natural elements of your autumn world share here–and yearning to find fabrics like this for my grandchildren’s stocking stuffers for Christmas!

I love your near and far. I love fabric stores, though I do not sew. I think it is because I have great memories of going with my mom–whe was a wonderful seamstress, and my sister and I were fashion plates because of her talent when we went to school.

You were lucky children indeed! I love to sew but haven’t done much lately. I’m planning on making Hungry Caterpillar cushions for the Grandchildren for Christmas.

Looked like a thistle head to me. I love the smell of autumn too. Waiting for the brilliant colours to start here. Your view is fabulous, Sally!

Yes, it is a thistle. I love Autumn though we don’t get the colours quite like you do. We were in the US last fall and it was just wonderful! 🙂

What beautiful colours there are in autumn, aren’t there? The feathery seed head – is that ‘Old Man’s Beard’? Love those ones, and the mustard seeds are great.

It’s a thistle and is very like Old Man’s Beard. You’ve sent me off on a quest to find some now! 🙂

There seems to be beauty at every turn where you live 🙂 I loved the fluffy white feathery seed head. Sigh, to think I used to blow the top off them & make a wish….

Thank you so much, as always! We call the little feathery heads ‘wish fairies’ too! Blow off the fairies and make a wish! Good wishes to you! 🙂
