1 We had wanted to go to Trelissick today but the rain was so heavy, we decided to postpone that visit and I’ve made do with my beautiful limited edition lino print, ‘April Evening’ by Isobel Ellis instead – sheep on the hill and The Carrick Roads in the distance.

I was delighted when I found them and am now finding I can’t pass a bookshelf without trying to find a poem!
I managed to get one of my Dad’s books in too! The bottom one in the suffragette pile, by David Wiseman , is the one and it’s about the suffragettes! 🙂
The title when it was published in the US was Tie to the Past.

Well, gosh, so much to say!
Firstly thank you again for your kind words, so glad you enjoyed and hope the grandchildren do too.
Don’t know the book, will investigate.
AnElephant’s favourite children’s books are by Dr Seuss (of course) although hugely admires Julia Donaldson.
There is also a great book called ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’, can’t remember by whom, but brilliant.
Piccolo was used as a joke for a little elephant (trumpeter) – happy that it bought back good family memories.
So you are in Cornwall, interesting to see you mention The Carrick Roads. AnElephant spent later school years in Ayr, and used to work weekends at Butlins Holiday Camp in the Carrick Hills, just outside of town. Scottish hero King Robert the Bruce was formerly Earl of Carrick.
Interesting collection of books, but AnElephant is scared of all women, particularly the strong-minded variety!

We love Dr Seuss too, for our own four and for the Grandchildren.
I agree completely about Julia Donaldson though might have thought that Anelephant might have found the Gruffalo a bit worrying, not to mention the Mouse! She just keeps coming up with the goods! We love Going on a Bear Hunt too – so much to talk about and then, when we’re at the beach, especially Perranporth at low tide we go into the caves on our own Bear Hunt!
I wonder if our Carrick Roads have anything to do with The Earl of Carrick – I shall have to do some digging!
The strong-minded type run in our family! My Great Grandmother was a Suffragette who was imprisoned for her activities in trying to win the vote for women! The last book in that pile was written by my Dad! 🙂

I’d forgotten the Carol Ann Duffy poem! Thanks for the reminder. I do like it for its stripping away of all Valentine’s Day rubbish and telling it like it is! That’s not to say I’m not a romantic and I love to get my card on Valentine’s Day! 🙂

I love words too! You may have guessed! Do you know the AWAD site? They send you a word every day into your inbox. Sometimes the words are quite ordinary but there’s always a link for the 5 each week and the discussions on Saturdays are often interesting. That’s where I first met one of my favourite words – petrichor!
