Rehearsing with Wildworks

What a fabulous day rehearsing for “100:The Day Our World Changed” at The Lost Gardens of Heligan. We started in Mevagissey on the quay as the production will next Sunday and waved off the new recruits with a beautiful and very moving old song called ‘The Soldier’s Farewell’. From there we moved on up to Heligan’s lovely gardens and continued discovering how the songs we have been rehearsing are to fit into the production.  Click on any photo in the Gallery to get a sense of the rehearsals and an idea of the beauty of the gardens – and if you live in Cornwall or are visiting  next weekend, come to join in this amazing immersive theatrical production involving the local community. It will be brilliant.

Father’s Day, Purple and Singing ‘Soldier’s Farewell’

1    Lovely cards and phone calls today for Mr S and my dear Dad (1916-2004) in my head all day.

2    Purple is one of my favourite colours (along with green – which with white, makes up the Suffragette colours, of which more in another post) Do click on the photo to see the furriness of the centre section, it’s so beautiful!

What’s left when the poppy petals have all dropped

Beautiful French Lavender

I wish you could smell this as well as see it – so lovely.

3   Singing tonight with the Treggies blew a touch of the blues away! We laugh, we sing and we sometimes cry! One song, ‘The Soldier’s Farewell’ is particularly moving and was, apparently, also sung by Cornish tin miners on the station as they were about to emigrate and leave their families far behind.

Oxides, Blue Sky and Singing ‘The Soldiers’ Farewell’

1   On some of the paving slabs on our new patio are some remarkably beautiful fern-like patterns. I thought they were  fossilised ferns but I’m told it’s oxides in the stone. Click to see the detail.

Oxides or fossils?

Fossilised fern?

2   It has been properly warm today with such a lovely Cornish blue sky.

3   Singing tonight with Hilary and the Inglehearts was so lovely. We did ‘The Soldiers’ Farewell’ with its beautiful harmonies and cadences – so moving, it  gave me the shivers.
