Bits on the Beach and A Birthday

Our eldest daughter came for the day as it was her birthday last week. We had a lovely walk on the beach at Perranporth, spotting lots of natural treasures on the sand and then enjoying a pie followed by cheesecake for her birthday meal. It’s always a joy to have her visiting.

Marmalade, Surfer and Sunset

We made this year’s batch of marmalade today. As always, my lovely Dad was in the kitchen with us in spirit. As readers may know, it was my Dad who made enough marmalade for the family every January and who taught me how to do the same.

The lovely Mr S had an appointment with his physio in Perranporth this afternoon so, it being a glorious day, I went too and spent an hour mooching around the beach and having a hot chocolate with a wonderful view. I love this beach, so many lovely childhood memories from when we lived in Perranporth before moving to Truro.

Driving home, I loved the shape of the new bridge against the sunset sky.

Frost, Family and Football

We woke to a surprisingly heavy frost, here, in Cornwall – the rooftops were sparkling in the sunshine.

We had another family day, lunch and another walk on the beach, Perranporth today.

I loved the very clear impression of a football in the damp sand.

And, just like that, they’ve gone……

A Story, A Beach and Two Homes

Once upon a time, a very long time when I was maybe eleven years old, I cycled from Truro to Perranporth, about 10 miles. Sadly, I hadn’t realised how hot it was, had forgotten to take water with me so stopped at a farmhouse on the way to ask, very nicely as I was a well brought up child, if I could please have a drink of water. “No, clear off! ” was the response and I have never forgotten that moment. Today it’s a smart looking place that looks rather like a hotel. We lived in and around Perranporth for several years and today was a bit of a memory-jogger. I loved the beach and still do.

One summer, when I was seven,  we lived in the ground floor flat of a lovely big house, one of the terrace at the top to the left of the picture.

Another summer, we spent in a caravan and a tent on the Liskey Hill campsite and I loved every moment.

Tunes in the Dunes and People Watching

At home yesterday we had glorious sunshine. As we approached Perranporth late afternoon for the music festival, we could see the mists above the sea and our walk across to Tunes in the Dunes was an eerie affair with the lovely sounds of Ruarri Joseph coming through the gloom. Have a listen to his  music and enjoy the fabulous sand art being created in this YouTube video. There was no sand art for us!     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT3CeGjfvoo

I enjoy the music at such events but have to say that the people watching is what makes my day with the music as a very enjoyable soundtrack. Click on any photo in the gallery. Status Quo were great fun and the Double Bass made in Camborne, our neighbouring town, quite magnificent! The tide was coming in throughout the evening and the surfers were out there enjoying the waves and, I hope, the music!

Perranporth Sands, Pools and A Message

I needed to blow the blues away this afternoon so we went for a really windy walk on the beach at Perranporth, three miles of golden sand when the tide is out, as it was. The little pools left by the outgoing tide had bits of seaweed floating in them and small patches of floating sand that were creating pretty shadows. There was an enormous message written in the sand saying  Thank you from Perranporth and we guessed that it was for the valedictory fly past of our Rescue helicopter fleet. I am told that the service has been ‘privatised’.  Click on any photo for the detail and the caption.
