Bag, Shoes and A New Word

A very brief foray to the pharmacy late this afternoon once the red warning of wild weather had been downgraded to amber and I walked past my favourite  fabric shop where the wording on this bag amused me.

In the charity shop next door were these gorgeous purple shoes. I couldn’t wear them but I do love a pretty shoe!

I love learning new words and this one really struck home!

There have been moments in the last two weeks when I have felt absolutely quanked but as the lovely Mr S makes such good progress my days are far less tiring. Thank you to everyone who has asked after his well-being and sent positive messages.  The four times a day exercises are going well and the new knee being tamed with a little more flexibility every day.

Blossom

Beautiful blossom on a neighbour’s tree in the calm before the storm (Storm Eunice expected to hit Cornwall tomorrow and with a red Met office warning i.e. danger to life. We’ll be staying indoors.))

Yellow, Purple and San Isidro

It is lovely to see Spring springing up all over the garden. The Tete a tete outside the kitchen are bringing a yellow glow  to the wall garden.

The purple crocuses are nearly over but still lovely.

One of our Christmas presents from dear friends who know and share our love of gardening, was a lovely plaque to the Saint of Gardeners, Saint Isidore. His story in the next photo is delightful.

Love

It’s Valentine’s Day today and we celebrate love in all its forms – for lovers, for friends, for families and for all humanity.
The other day while out walking , I spotted a heart shaped leaf on the pavement and saved the photo for today.

I made a special dinner for tonight and we finished with one of our favourites, Ginger and Lime Cheesecake.

More Love

I really love these. I am reminded, by the last one, when our very poorly two year old climbed onto the knee of his very poorly Great Aunt and just cuddled in a way that seemed to show that he knew and understood. We were all moved by the love shown.
“What is Love? Little Angels are answering…
A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, ‘What does love mean?’ The answers they got were broader, deeper, and more profound than anyone could have ever imagined!

‘When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore… So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.’ Rebecca – age 8

‘When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.’ Billy – age 4
‘Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.’ Karl – age 5
‘Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.’ Chrissy – age 6
‘Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.’ Terri – age 4
‘Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.’ Danny – age 8
‘Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and just listen.’ Bobby – age 7 (Wow!)
‘If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.’ Nikka – age 6
(we need a few million more Nikka’s on this planet)
‘Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day.’ Noelle – age 7
‘Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.’ Tommy – age 6
‘During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.
He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.’ Cindy – age 8
‘My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.’ Clare – age 6
‘Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.’ Elaine – age 5
‘Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.’ Chris – age 7
‘Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.’ Mary Ann – age 4
‘I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.’ Lauren – age 4
‘When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.’ (what an image!) Karen – age 7
‘Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn’t think it’s gross…’ Mark – age 6
‘You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.’ Jessica – age 8
And the final one: The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, ‘Nothing, I just helped him cry.’

Marmalade

The tiny pots of marmalade that we make come into their own when someone needs breakfast in bed.

Apologies to my Dear Readers for being somewhat tardy in replying to comments and to my Blogger pals whose posts I am not visiting at the moment. I am quite busy making sure the lovely Mr S is properly cared for!

Snowdrops and A Poem

One of my lovely choir friends sent this photo of a carpet of snowdrops knowing that it would lift my spirits. His cousin took the picture in Welford Park near Newbury this morning. How absolutely beautiful they are.

Photo by Chris, John’s cousin. Thank you to both.

They reminded me of a Mary Webb poem, “Snowdrop Time”

Snowdrop Time

Ah, hush! Tread softly through the time,
For there will be a blackbird singing, or a thrush.
Like  coloured beads the elm buds flush:
All the trees dream of leaves and flowers and light.
And see!  The northern bank is much more white
Than frosty grass, for now is snowdrop time.

Donkeys and Lambs

Isn’t this delightful?
Donkey nannies in Italy.
Each year in Italy, grazing animals are moved from high pastures down to the plains. Newborn lambs are unable to make this journey on their own. Instead, they ride in the pouches of a specially made saddle on the back of a donkey or a mule nanny. They are taken down at rest stops and returned to their mothers for a bite to eat and a bit of nuzzling.
