1 In a lull between storms we went for a walk from Helston to Loe Bar through fields, woodland, swampy mangroves, alongside the biggest freshwater lake in Cornwall and along the cliffs above Loe Bar – a brilliant walk for photographs!
Having our picnic before we set off we saw so many beautiful little birds – Goldfinches Long tail tits, Blue-tits, Coal tits, a Wren and a couple of Goldcrests and some Pied Wagtails, more than we’ve seen in our garden for a long time. On the walk we saw cormorants and ducks of all kinds and a couple of hawks.
2 All along the way I was amused to discover ‘The Green Gym’ for those for whom the walk was not exercise enough!
3 The reflections in the pool and in the puddles were beautiful. I took a self portrait of me doing what I love , taking photographs of beautiful things in the great outdoors!
and two photographs of the sea….

What a great walk with so much to look at! I would love it!

We were lucky to be able to do it. We’ve heard today that the river has flooded with ‘danger to life’ and much of that walk is impassable. In fact many, many places in Cornwall flooded last night and there is more rain to come later. We are lucky to live up a hill.

That is good you live up hill. It is amazing how quickly the weather can change. Yesterday it was nice here and today it is snowing and the roads are bad. I guess you have to take the opportunity while you can. 🙂

The moss covered branches were particularly spectacular. 🙂

Your images are fantastic. Those branches with the moss are wonderful. Just love the Autumn colours. The memory of those colours are still strongly with me even though I’ve been back for a week now.

Thank you. It was glorious across the pool with the softness in the autumn colours, never seen it quite like that. 🙂
Sadly, we’ve heard today that Loe Pool and The River Cober have flooded with ‘danger to life’ and much of that walk is impassable. In fact many, many places in Cornwall flooded last night and there is more rain to come later. We are very lucky to live up a hill.

Did you see the long tailed duck that’s supposed to be on the lake?
Love the self portrait!

Love that walk, so do Sue and Molls. Sue made it thru the whole of the balance beams challenge once. The birding is always spectacular in the mangroves. In 2006 my friend Anne & I started out from Port Leven on Flora Day, got lost, crossed the bar and wandered up to the top end of Helston just at the right time for the Noon Dance to appear! Then we followed the crowd down thru town, found the right way back to Porth Leven and the bus back to Penzance. What a great memory.

A lovely memory of a lovely walk indeed but today much of it is flooded. The River Cober and Loe Pool are both overflowing with a ‘danger to life’ warning from the Environment Agency. Very sad.

Thank you. The moss was so richly green and velvety. I took over a hundred photos on that walk! I was pleased with the self-portrait too! 🙂
