Granny’s Song, Christmas Bauble and New Growth

This morning on Radio 4, I heard the hymn, ‘Now the Day  is Over’ being sung.  It was  both a tearful moment and a beautiful memory at the same time as my Granny, who lived with us in Birmingham for about a year when I was 5, sang this to me every night at bedtime. She often sang it in Welsh – Nawr bod y diwrnod wedi dod i ben.  This is the best recording of the right tune that I can find. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrDkI0yzzAo

Along the lane by St Euny Churchyard, Mr Smith noticed a Christmas bauble. It took me a few moments to find it. Then it made me smile, wondering how it had ended up there.

Spot the bauble!

The 40 minute walk up the lane and along the Flat lode at the back of our house is always a satisfying one to do. It was good to see some new colourful growth on a Sycamore.

Garden Lunch, Wedding Etiquette and Kitchen Art

1   Such a beautiful warm day today, we had our lunch (home-made Guacamole and Melba toasts)  on the bench in the sun for the first time this year. Did some vertical gardening putting primroses into the Cornish wall near the new sun terrace.

2   Had a happy half hour with Daniel on Skype learning more about the quite complicated etiquette of a Senegalese Wedding.

3   I love this egg storage unit which to me is a piece of kitchen art. I think it is a Welsh spoon holder but it keeps our eggs perfectly!

Blossom, Raised Beds and Welsh Snowdrops + Senegalese Wedding

1  On my walk down into Redruth today, this beautiful blossom took my breath away.

2   Mr S has cleared the patch for the new terrace and spread compost on the raised beds, ready for vegetable planting quite soon.

3  Lovely friends brought us some more snowdrops from their place in Wales.

4   + a little extra! Just had over an hour with Daniel on Skype talking about the wedding and all the things we need to know about before we go to Senegal. I have to send my measurements to Ami so that she can get my wedding outfit made up for me before we arrive! It was Ndeye Marie’s 4th  birthday last week and Daniel sent some photos while we were chatting.
