Two Cards, Fabulous ‘Christmas Leftovers Soup’ and Family Visit

1  My lovely sister in Hawaii has made a beautiful Christmas card of her turtle experience and it arrived today and I found the perfect birthday card for my very good friend, Angie, left behind in the North when we moved back home. That delightful ‘pig of happiness’ says it all.

2  For lunch today we had our fabulous ‘Christmas Leftovers Soup’- our favourite meal of the season! The stock has been simmering for two days making the most amazing broth to which I added everything leftover!

3  My sister-in-law in Atlanta, Georgia emailed to say they have their dates for their visit next year! They’re renting a cottage in St Mawes and my brother and his wife will also come over from Germany to visit at the same time. V&P from Atlanta have not been to the UK for 8 years!

Fingerless glove, Colourgirl and Deborah’s turtle

1  Mr Smith had the bright idea that a fingerless glove might keep my arthritic wrist warm without restricting movement as the wrist splint does so I downloaded a pattern and knitted one this morning. Brilliant! It’s helping.

2 The Colourgirlz started work on the front door. Veronika worked so hard and already there is transformation – ugly wallpaper gone and  undercoats on front door and porch woodwork.

3  Deborah had an encounter with a turtle:

”  I had an amazing close encounter with an enormous sea turtle yesterday.  I was close, but at a respectful distance, and he swam over to where I was.  He blew bubbles for me and looked as if he wanted to climb into my lap.  He craned his head out of the water, getting as close as possible.  He felt so wise and ancient. I stayed with him for a long while, just communicating with him and loving him, what an incredible gift.  I attached a photo of him blowing bubbles!”

The moon, Truro Cathedral choirboys and a double moonbow!

1  Driving to Truro this evening, the moon was a glorious, huge white disc in the sky. There was hardly a need for headlights, it was so bright.

2 The sound made by the choirboys as they sang in tonight’s concert in the Cathedral for last year’s flood victims was just truly beautiful.

3  I came home to this message from my Sister about a moon-bow – I didn’t even know one could exist!

“Oh Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!! How wonderful this place is (enhanced by a true, loving relationship.) Last night we went to a field of lava, covered with incredible petroglyphs. There we watched the sun set and the moon rise. We were blessed with the incredible vision of a moonbow. It is like a rainbow, but it created by the light of the moon. It held the full spectrum of colors, but muted to a gentle hue due to the source of light. At first it was just a small part of an arc, but as we watched, it became a complete arc circling the sky, and then, even more of a miracle, there was a faint echo of yet another arc around the first. A double moonbow! What a blessing, what a gift. I love this new home of mine and am filled with gratitude for my life.”

Thank you, Deborah, for this beautiful mind-picture.

Singing, Mr Smith and Daisy’s painting

1  A fabulous singing session with the  Suitcases learning ‘Hark, the Glad Sound’  a Thomas Merritt carol, with the loveliest harmonies that sound like pealing bells. Watching peoples’ faces transforming from puzzlement to absolute beaming joy as they ‘got’ their part was magic!

2  Coming home from choir to Mr Smith telling me, with a big grin, “Today feels like the first day of the rest of my life!”  The osteopath has fixed the problem at last after 3 weeks of treatment but four months of pain. Thank you, Joe.  (Update – 23/11/2011 The relief was short-lived. Joe is still trying to help.)

This delights me every day!  It is a wonderfully vibrant painting by my dear sister, Daisy, who now lives in Hawaii, and who is so happy in her new life. We’ve put it in the spare bedroom so that we can see it from the hall, all the way up the stairs, when we come out of the bedroom and it lifts my spirits every time I see it. Thank you, Deborah.

Sunday 6th November

1  Woke up to such a happy email from my sister who now lives in Hawaii – what a delight to hear such joy coming through.

2  I spent much of the day creating a casserole for a meal with friends, bit of a challenge as I can use no garlic, onions, leeks etc and it tastes delicious!

3  Went to the Shout at the Countryman in Piece, met up with lovely friends and had a jolly good sing.
