Sunlit Waves, A Lighthouse and A New Cookery Book

It was such a beautiful day today, a clear blue sky and  lots of bright sunlight if rather cold. I was taken to see the sea at Chapel Porth, one of my favourite beaches so that I can hold that memory tight for the next few weeks.

2   We pass this charming little lighthouse on our way down to the beach and today I was able to get a photo.

3   This afternoon I have been drooling over my Christmas present from daughter No 2, a cookery book, ‘Red Velvet Chocolate Heartache’ by  Harry Eastwood and planning all the baking I shall be doing when I am back on my feet and off my crutches.

Tomorrow is the day and as my lovely and wise Mum used to say, “This too shall pass.”  I must admit to feeling somewhat apprehensive but this time tomorrow I shall have my new hip and be on the road to recovery. I’ve scheduled a few posts for the next week or so until, hopefully, I can start posting again.

Road Trip Day 2 – to New Hampshire

Today we found our second lighthouse, our first covered bridge , travelled through more small towns with pretty white Churches, admiring leaves and Hallowe’en decorations everywhere but not always able to take photos, especially when it was my turn to drive! Come with us as we drive from Kennebunkport to Cape Elizabeth to see The Portland Head Light, one we know of through the well known painting by Edward Hopper which we have on our landing at home.
After a picnic lunch by the sea, with home just across the pond, we set off for Jackson, up past Sebago Lake then Naples where I met a lovely chap while admiring his Harley. I was telling him how I have always wanted to ride a Harley and he laughed, saying so had he. Just two weeks ago he went on a two day course, the day after he bought his beautiful bike and now here he was riding and having fun! He just turned 64 so there’s hope yet!
On then to Jackson, going through the Jackson Covered Bridge to find the quaintest General Store and on to our hotel for two nights where we have a view of the mountains. .

On the Radio, Seeds and A New Birdhouse

1   Yesterday at the Museum, I was interviewed by BBC Radio Cornwall about what object I was putting into the Wildworks’  Cabinet of Cornish Curiosities and my piece was used in the Breakfast programme!   You can read about my object here.

2   I ordered some seeds a couple of days ago and they arrived today! I am so impressed with the company! They are called Seedaholic and provide a fantastic service. The seeds came beautifully packed and with all manner of useful and interesting information.  The ground is now ready and I plan to sow them tomorrow.

3   We’ve bought the most delightful new birdhouse with two storeys, the top one a nesting box and the lower level for seeds. The lovely Mr S put it up last night and whenever I see it, it makes me smile!

St Ives, Turnstones, Alleyways and More

1    A lovely cold bright day so we went to St Ives on the train – a stunning coastal train journey which is a favourite of ours. The sun went in as we started the 9 minute ride but St Ives is beautiful in any light.

2     As we were walking into the town we came across a delightful flock of little Turnstones who were remarkably unafraid.
