Cacti from the Westerns
Steep hill to come
Driving from Phoenix to Holbrook, the vegetation changed from enormous cacti such as we see in the movies to scrubby bush, larger bushes and pine trees as we climbed to an elevation of 5000 ft. Holbrook was just a stopover en route to Canyon de Chelly and our ride on Route 66 was vey brief. Happily, we have done much more on previous journeys though I still have the dream to ride some of 66 on a Harley!
Dream Harley
1. Last night when we were having supper on the back porch, a beautiful green lizard nearly joined us.
2. Isn’t the Harley Davison just the most beautiful machine?
3. The evening sunlight lit up the Sugar Maple leaves to gold.
Today we found our second lighthouse, our first covered bridge , travelled through more small towns with pretty white Churches, admiring leaves and Hallowe’en decorations everywhere but not always able to take photos, especially when it was my turn to drive! Come with us as we drive from Kennebunkport to Cape Elizabeth to see The Portland Head Light, one we know of through the well known painting by Edward Hopper which we have on our landing at home.
After a picnic lunch by the sea, with home just across the pond, we set off for Jackson, up past Sebago Lake then Naples where I met a lovely chap while admiring his Harley. I was telling him how I have always wanted to ride a Harley and he laughed, saying so had he. Just two weeks ago he went on a two day course, the day after he bought his beautiful bike and now here he was riding and having fun! He just turned 64 so there’s hope yet!
On then to Jackson, going through the Jackson Covered Bridge to find the quaintest General Store and on to our hotel for two nights where we have a view of the mountains. .
