Sun, Penzance and Optimism

1    When we collected my brother from Newquay Airport just over two weeks ago there was the most beautiful sunset. Today, as we took him back to go home to Munich, there was a pretty sunrise and now it’s all quiet again and we are catching upon all the things that stood still while we enjoyed time together.

2   We went to Penzance this afternoon for the Literary Festival and a talk,  ‘Sailing round Cornwall’ by our good friend, Sue Kittow which we thoroughly enjoyed. The town was full of flags for the various summer festivals.

Knitting, Lavender and A Blue House

1   In Penzance this morning, it amused me to see the Ice-cream seller knitting quite a complicated pattern while waiting for customers.

2   We were on a fascinating Guided walk with Anna through Penzance and it wasn’t easy to stop for photos. This little lavender container caught my eye at one of our stops.

3   Another eye catcher was the beautiful blue of a house up what used to be the main thoroughfare of Penzance.

Pirates on Penzance Prom – World Record Attempt

We joined dozens of Pirates on Redruth station platform this afternoon and by the time the train arrived in Penzance it was packed with Pirates of all ages, all going to try to regain the Guinness Book of Records World Record which we held in 2011 but which Hastings took in 2012. We had to beat 14,231. Very sadly we missed this by only 77, being a gathering of 14,155. However, despite the heavy showers and not quite making the record, a fantastic day was had by all and at least £14,155 was raised for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute who do such a wonderful job around our coasts. The whole day was one of jollity and good humour and the costumes were brilliant. Click on any photo for detail.

Day Out in Penzance – Mermaid, Stone Sculptures, Egret and Architecture

1   I delight in finding lovely weather vanes and this mermaid looking in a mirror is one of the best.

2   Behind the Jubilee Pool in Penzance we spotted these stone sculptures and an egret fishing in the rock pools.
