Weekly Photo Challenge – Broken

26 May

This is my boody garden. In the dialect of 19th century Northumberland, ‘boody’ referred to broken china. I discovered this at Tate Britain last year when we went to the  exhibition of folk art. Now I have a name for my little garden where my favourite broken pottery and a whole heap of memories are saved.
There is a beautiful old plate, half a tea-pot, a piece of terracotta from a bread crock, half a mug that is the penultimate one left of my Mum’s retirement present when she left teaching deaf children in the unit at Roskear School, Camborne  and handles from a beautiful piece of Jane Hamlyn pottery and I just love it, my ‘boody’ garden!

Who would have thought! I usually throw my broken china out but now I’m going to have to rethink that for sure. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos … now it’s off to find some broken china 🙂

Boody is a new one on me, but I do like that idea of using the pieces in the garden.

It was new to me too and it appealed greatly – hence my little garden. At the rate things get broken around here, I may need to have another one! 🙂

Great suggestion to add interest to the garden…I save everything so it should be pretty easy to find something I can use. I am now anxious to see what this looks like in my garden.

What a wonderful idea! I’ve always felt sad when I had to discard broken bits of beautiful china.
