Birthday Breakfast, Penryn and Potato Crop

12 Jan

1   The lovely Mr S made me my Birthday Breakfast today.  ( I know my birthday was nearly two weeks ago but, truth to tell, I have been unwell since before Christmas and not up to celebrating much at all. Yesterday I felt ‘normal’ for the first time in three weeks. My blog only allows for Beautiful Things! )

Birthday breakfast in our house is Bucks Fizz and croissants with cream cheese and avocado! This was my treat when we lived in Yorkshire and used to drive to York early in the morning on my birthday to have breakfast in Betty’s, a fabulous old fashioned cafe with wonderful food.  We often returned for lunch after a lovely wander around the alleyways of York and a visit to the Minster, to have their famous Rosti for lunch and then bought some of their coffee and a cake or two to take home. Thanks to Freefoto for the photograph.

2   The Clock Tower in Penryn still had some Christmas lights around it and from the car-park , I could see this Church which I think may be St Gluvias Church. I plan to go back to have a good look around sometime.

3   We’re having a birthday dinner tonight too and some of our new potatoes are on the menu. These are more than half of the whole crop……..!

I took my mum to Betty’s in York for lunch for her birthday this year. Whenever I go out shopping with her in York we try and go.

Thank you very much! I’m going to try making the Fat Rascals quite soon, especially for the friend who commented on the same post about them and who set me off on the Google search that led me to you.

I’ll let you know how they go and then would like, with your permission to put the recipe on my Recipe pages – with due credit to you, of course! 🙂

What lovely blemish free potatoes. You did well to grow them so beautifully even if it is a small crop

Thank you! They tasted delicious! We planted them for Christmas but in the chaos of things forgot about them so it was a lovely treat to have them last night. 🙂

what lovely pictures of England as I remember it forty five years ago!!! they make me feel quite homesick…
Glad you’re recovered from your ‘”down-turn” – did you do too much at Christmas?

So glad you like the photos – hope the pleasure outweighs the homesickness.

Thanks for your kind wishes too. It’s very good to feel better. I had ME many years ago and the washed out, wooly headed feeling that hung on this time was a bit scary. Perhaps, being that much older, it just takes longer to get back to normal!

All the best to you 🙂

Glad you’ve come out the other side…

I’m glad to know you are feeling better…before I even knew you were feeling bad. Birthdays are a wonderful thing to string out, so it works out well.

Looks like St. Gluvias to me. Betty’s still on my bucket list, never got to Harrogate on our Yorkshire trips and didn’t know they had one in York, darn. You just dug those lovely taters today?

Is it a Church worth visiting? I do love Church buildings!

We used to love going to Betty’s, one of the few things I miss about not being in Yorkshire – that and friends of course.

We did! Planted them for Christmas and forgot about them which was good because they became part of my birthday celebrations! 🙂
