New Cake, Tulips and a Veggie Supper

Jamie Oliver has a new programme that we caught by accident last week where he is helping people to cook with limited ingredients, encouraging experimenting if you don’t have all the ‘correct’ ingredients and demonstrated a no egg Chocolate Cake (as eggs are very hard to come by at the moment.  I scribbled down the recipe – very quick and easy, no eggs, lots of nuts and oh, so moreish!  We had it warm with single cream. It would be good with ice-cream too.
We left some on the step for our lovely neighbour to try too and a note for the neighbours on the other side that there is some waiting for them in thanks for the SR flour they found for us.

Our tulips are gorgeous!

Tonight’s meal was another new recipe, this time a Yotam Ottolenghi one from this weekend’s Feast magazine that comes with The Guardian. I served it with yogurt and slivered almonds and a naan rather than with the suggested rice.   But, seriously, who grates a tomato let alone four?!  We chopped them and it worked really well and was very tasty. We had no spinach so I used the cauliflower greens chopped up instead.

Letter, Earrings and Supper

The post today brought us an update on the seven year old girl we are sponsoring in Senegal. It is always a delight to hear from the family. I love the tree A has drawn for us.

I have cleaned and re-hung all my favourite earrings today. It is lovely to remember where I bought each pair or the person who gave them to me.

Supper tonight, Creamy Courgette and Tarragon Cobbler, is from a new Yotam Ottolenghi recipe in today’s Guardian. The photo is from the magazine as our dish is still in the oven!

P.S. Well, that was delicious! I used almonds instead of walnuts and cut the ingredients to suit two rather than six, served it with broccoli and we have just finished a most scrumptious veggie supper!DSCN9961

Yotam Ottolenghi, Seaside and Snoods

I read a recipe in The Guardian this morning that sounded delicious. It was one of Yotam Ottolenghi’s, Cauliflower and Chickpeas with Warm Tahini Yogurt and it was as delicious (and easy)  as it sounded. I chopped the tomatoes though rather than grating them! If you would like to try the recipe, here is the link http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/jan/30/tahini-recipes-yotam-ottolenghi-chilli-fish-roast-cauliflower-sprout-burnt-butter-black-garlic  It’s the third recipe in the article.

Gylly Beach looked inviting from Castle Drive today but, in fact, it was very cold and we didn’t stay very long.

We were in Falmouth to deliver some warm clothes, and the four Snoods I have knitted, to Espressini, a local cafe that is acting as a Collection point for donations for refugees in Calais. The young woman in the cafe told me that the lovely local people have been very generous which is good to hear. Some people are driving over next week to visit The Jungle and to take all the donated items to those in need.
