John Harris, Tregellas Tapestries, and Seed Heads

1   We were in the Cornish Studies Library in Redruth today to see the exhibition about John Harris, Cornish Miner and Poet. It was fascinating to read about his life and his works.

2   When in the library, I always love looking at The Tregellas tapestries. I wrote about some of the others (there are 58 beautiful pieces in total) here. Here are three more. Click on any photo for more detail.

3   Walking back up from town, (which I did with ease today, three months on from my Total Hip Replacement – my diary can be found here), I noticed a couple of beautiful seed heads.

Weather, Hip Replacement and Iris Reticulata

We are very lucky here in Cornwall as the Spring continues to develop but I know that lots of my readers from Atlanta, Georgia to Texas, to Vermont, and the far North of Canada are still in the throes of winter, so for you, here are Pooh Bear and Eeyore discussing the wintery weather.

2   A friend sent me this yesterday!

Hip replacement!

Hip replacement!

I am extremely happy with my hip replacement making little strides like walking upstairs properly and going from strength to strength each day. If you’d like to read the Diary of my Hip Replacement, told as it was, click on the link in the horizontal menu at the top or click here

3    This lovely and rather lonely Iris Reticulata was in the gardens at The Princess Pavilions yesterday.

Flowers, Brand New Hip and Snow!

1    A lovely friend called by yesterday when I was resting and left these beautiful bright flowers on the doorstep and with them a card of our local hotel, a photo dated 1780!

2   Maybe not for the squeamish but here is an x-ray of my wonderful new hip. I saw the surgeon today and he is delighted with my progress and that I have been doing all my exercises so well!

3   We have been waiting for snow and this afternoon had a snowstorm! It lasted about 10 minutes and ten minutes after that it has all gone though we could still see a dusting on the hills. That could well be our lot for the winter.

Felted Godrevy

My beautiful and very talented friend, N, made this delightful felted picture of one of our favourite places, Godrevy.

It is where I would rather be today whereas I am nearby in St Michael’s Hospital having my hip replacement done. In four days I should be home and becoming increasingly mobile!

The Woodman, Robert Frost and News

1   No photos today as I haven’t left the house, being full of cold. Something arrived across the ether though to cheer me up and that is this beautiful painting by the Mother of a young friend of mine. I love the detail, the ordinariness of the woodman bending over to tie his shoelaces and the colour in the trees. It really is very beautiful and Lorraine’s Mum a very talented artist.

2  Another friend commented that the painting reminded him of a Robert Frost poem ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’. Even though there is no snow, I can see why.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

3    I have the date for my Total Hip Replacement. It may surprise you that I find that a beautiful thing but it is because it is on 29th December 2014 so I can start the New Year with my new hip and in no time at all will be all-singing and dancing again!  Watch this space!
