1 No photos today as I haven’t left the house, being full of cold. Something arrived across the ether though to cheer me up and that is this beautiful painting by the Mother of a young friend of mine. I love the detail, the ordinariness of the woodman bending over to tie his shoelaces and the colour in the trees. It really is very beautiful and Lorraine’s Mum a very talented artist.
2 Another friend commented that the painting reminded him of a Robert Frost poem ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’. Even though there is no snow, I can see why.
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
3 I have the date for my Total Hip Replacement. It may surprise you that I find that a beautiful thing but it is because it is on 29th December 2014 so I can start the New Year with my new hip and in no time at all will be all-singing and dancing again! Watch this space!

Year after year we had to memorize that poem in school.
Best of luck with the hip.

Did you like the poem or was it spoilt for you? Thank you for your good wishes 🙂

I still like the poem. It’s like the scene with Macbeth’s witches or Hamlet’s soliloquy, the first couple of words set you off reciting the full thing. It quite confuses my children…..so it’s a good thing.

Lovely painting and poem really fits. Your news surely is a good present. You can enjoy Christmas and then start the New Year knowing you can look back on the surgery instead of forward to it.
