Sewing, Knitting and The Little Things

I read some time ago that refugees landing  in Lesvos were being given baby carriers and that this freed their hands to hold the hands of their other children. The faces of the parents as they were fitted with the carriers was beyond beautiful. I read that one can make Mai Tei baby carriers and so began to research how this could be done. I have found a pattern and gathered together all the materials and my first one is on the way. Here are three of the four straps/ties in various stages of making, two of 3′ and two of 6′. I’ll show you as it grows. I shall have to borrow a baby to try it out when done. If you would like to join me I’ll send you the links for the pattern.

I also read that people in Calais have been being given warm woolly snoods and they are as delighted with them as are the parents on Lesvos. I cannot sew in the evenings but I can knit while watching TV and these are very quick and easy in Super Chunky Wool. If you want to join me with the knitting, I’ll pass on this pattern too. It was a free one.

Red Berries, Pink Scarf, Creamy Tulip and the pattern

1   It has been another beautiful clear skied day with blue skies and bright sunshine though there is still a sharp nip in the air when out of the warmth of the sun.  I love how the sunshine made these (poisonous?) berries of the Laurel glow as if lit from inside.

2   We Skyped with the family contingent who live in Barcelona last week and NM confessed that she had lost her scarf. I have made a new one, as requested in the same chunky pink wool that I used for her cardigan in January.  We posted it this morning.

Grannymar  asked for the pattern to make a beautiful Three Toed Sloth so here is the manufacturer and the pattern number for her and for anyone else who fancies making one of these beautiful woolly creatures!  Here is the link to see my version.

Smiles, Snowdog and Sky After Stormy Shower

1 When I sorted out the children’s room I discovered that the toys on the windowsill had all been sitting in condensation. I put them on the bathroom radiator to dry and they’ve given us smiles each time we’ve been in.

2 I was told that there is a pattern for the Snowman’s Snowdog in Women’s Weekly magazine so off I went to buy it. There was enough blue sky to make a sailor a pair of pants as my Aunty used to say so I didn’t take an umbrella. Mistake! The heavens opened and I was drenched but I did get my magazine. Next knitting project now decided!

3 As I arrived home, the stormy shower stopped as suddenly as it began and left us this beautiful sky.
