Baby Sweater, April Morning and Rain

Yesterday I was given a beautifully knitted sweater for KnitZTanzania, knitted by T, the lovely Mother of a very good friend. I am working on one myself and encouraging others to knit so that we can send off another bundle to stop babies in Tanzania dying of hypothermia. The pattern is on my Creative Projects page, takes only 50g of yarn and is very easy.

2     April mornings are so beautiful with sunshine and showers, Spring blossoms and bird song. I love this poem!

Morning – Sara Teasdale

I went out on an April morning
All alone, for my heart was high,
I was a child of the shining meadow,
I was a sister of the sky.

There in the windy flood of morning
Longing lifted its weight from me,
Lost as a sob in the midst of cheering,
Swept as a sea-bird out to sea.

3   And today we have showers! We haven’t had any rain for a long time and the garden really needs it. In this photo you can see two of the chimneys that I plant up, a  squat ridged creamy stone one and a tall elegant terracotta one. You can also see our beautiful Fledgling, the Malus just coming into flower with underneath Primroses  and some spikes of a lovely blue flower whose name escapes me. In the foreground are some of the beautiful white tulips I showed you recently.  On the left is the bird lighthouse where Blue Tits have been visiting but we don’t know if they have decided to nest there this year.

Tulips, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Bird House

1   The cream and white tulips in my Suffragette garden are  looking beautiful with raindrops decorating them.

2   A friend sent me a quotation from Ralph Waldo Emerson today which I really liked. Here it is for you.

live in the sunshine

Having now looked him up, I find there are many, many of his thoughts that I appreciate. I think his words will feature here again.

3   The bird house that we put up last Spring has residents! It looks as if a Blue tit couple has approved it. We have seen them coming and going over the last few days and are very hopeful that they will make it their family home.

A Visit, Magpies and The Mystery Object

1   We had a lovely visit to friends today, meeting their lovely young dog, Kaja, whose first birthday it is today.

3   The mystery object that I showed you here turn out to be Bicycle clips as evidenced in the newspaper cutting of June 23rd 2001.  I can’t help thinking they would soon put holes in the fabric as they are very sharp. I can’t help feeling that Marilyn is more likely right and they are callipers used for measuring – must be tiny measurements indeed.  Click on the photo to see it more clearly. When we bought the little object, the man who sold them to us also gave us this newspaper cutting.
