St Michael’s Mount, Fish’n’chips and Clouds

What a beautiful place St Michael’s Mount is! This is the view from Penzance where we had a windy walk along the prom.

Fish’n’chips for lunch! It was delicious crispy batter and beautifully fresh, local caught fish.

The clouds today have been very dramatic starting with the ones as the sun rose this morning.

One hundred years ago today my lovely Dad was born. “Let’s look it up!” were some of his most used words and have become something of a family motto as here on my birthday poster made by our four. Even when he had gone blind (the last two years of his life) he would say “Let’s look it up!” and could tell me just where the reference book was on his shelves. What kind of moth? The green book on the left hand book shelves, third shelf down, about six in from the left!  What year was a piece of music written that he had heard on the radio that day? Bottom shelf of the book case next to the bureau, dark blue cover and right in the middle. He was right every time.

Pistol Loop, Chandelier and St Michael’s Mount

Godolphin House is only open one week each month and we went there today on our last day with our Best Beloveds who leave tomorrow. Here are some highlights of the day.

Afterwards we drove to Marazion and had lunch in Godolphin Arms overlooking St Michael’s Mount. The photo was taken through a rain spattered window and the people are waiting for the tide to go out just a bit more so that they can walk over the causeway to the Mount. Some people are paddling across!

St Michael’s Mount, Horses and A Dog

It is such a joy to get out in the sunshine. It was very beautiful in Mount’s bay.

There were horses and their riders enjoying the water’s edge.

Heart Glow, Happiness and I Love Libraries

1   Some days you just need a boost and today that came from phone calls from two of our daughters, one to tell me that as Grand-baby B grows she looks more and more like me. That made my heart glow!  The other was to ask if they can come for New Year (of course!)

2   Happiness is phone calls from those who love you and ginger ice-cream by the sea.

3   Do watch Scroobius Pip’s animated poem ‘Library’ – commissioned by Chris Hawkins for BBC 6 Music’s celebration of libraries and performed live on his show in November 2014.  It is brilliant! Please feel free to share it as far and wide as possible.

Sunflower, Tremenheere and Ubuntu

1    Only one of our Sunflowers has been successful and it is beautiful.

2    We had a family outing to Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens this afternoon and the children loved exploring the jungly garden. The adults loved the sculptures and we all enjoyed delicious cakes at the end of our hot, hard walk.

3    It’s World Humanitarian Day and SG, a good friend, has said her word for today is Ubuntu.  Archbishop Desmond Tutu explained ubuntu like this –  he says that you cannot exist as a human being in isolation, as we are all interconnected:
“We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.”   Or, as SG says, “I am because you are.” Thank you for this, S.

Knitting, Nao Roz Kites and Kneelers

1   I have done my first 100 cms piece for the 7 miles of knitting being done by supporters of Wool Against Weapons (See this post)  Now to sew all the ends in. I haven’t decided whether to do stripes in the next piece….

2   We joined a bunch of like-minded people today on the beach by St Michael’s Mount for a very special event, Fly Kites Not Drones, in honour of Nowruz, Afghanistan’s New Year.  There were kites of all shapes and sizes flown by children and adults of all ages. Voices for Creative Non-Violence UK is holding a weekend of solidarity with Afghans who will be facing uncertainty and the possibly of an escalation in conflict during the renegotiation of the international presence within Afghanistan. Our kite flying on the beach was a part of this. Here’s a gallery of photos to give you a flavour of the event. Click on any one for the detail.  I’d like to wish my readers in Afghanistan, and there are a few, a Happy New Year.

3   After the kite flying, we strolled about Marazion for a while and as the Church had a notice inviting anyone in during daylight hours (rare these days – many Churches, sadly, are locked when not in use) we had a look around and were both struck by the colourful beauty of the kneelers. Click on the photo to see the amazing stitch-work..
