Marmalade Cat, Daffodils and A Poem

When we visited friends yesterday we were delighted to meet with their beautiful cat again, grown and gorgeous. He reminds me of Orlando the Marmalade Cat whose stories entranced me as a child.Click here to see him as a kitten.

I just love having Cornish daffodils in the house all the time in these cold, dark months.

We have a new gallery in town called 89 Redruth. We popped in at the weekend to see the new exhibition. We didn’t buy anything this time but near some lovely clay pieces was the following poem which I like very much. May you all, Dear Readers, have the ‘invisible cloak’ of love to keep you safe.

Card, Lichen and Cake

I love stationery and love the rainbow colours of this display in our local shop.

Visiting friends this afternoon, the lichen in their pile of logs caught my eye.

Tomorrow’s cake for the volunteers at Community Roots is Lemon and Blueberry .

We have a new jigsaw and it’s hard! Fascinating and fun but hard!

It is a challenge identifying the various characters and they are all very small so this is going to take us a while but it’s a lovely way to spend these cold, grey, windy days!

Valentine’s Day and A Poem

Happy Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s or Palentine’s – whatever floats your boat!

I have a couple of favourite love poems. Today I give you Carol Ann Duffy’s Valentine, one the teenagers in my English classes really took to.

Not a red rose or a satin heart.

I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.

Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.

I am trying to be truthful.

Not a cute card or a kissogram.

I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful
as we are,
for as long as we are.

Take it.
Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding ring,
if you like.
Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.

We have been out this evening to Home Ground’s Pizza night, a delicious meal, all handmade from fresh ingredients, in lovely cosy surroundings and a really lovely ambience.

Jigsaw and Muffins

We completed our delightful cats and books jigsaw. It’s been fun!

We love our air fryer bought just before Christmas. From deciding we fancy a muffin with our afternoon cuppa to eating a delicious warm Blueberry and Chocolate Muffin, just 30 minutes – and some for Valentine’s Day too.

Snow Moon and A Poem

12 Feb

The moon is full now and is called the Snow Moon. Sadly we have cloud cover and no sight of the moon but last night I was up at 2am and the garden was lit up almost like day. There were shadows caused by the silvery light of the almost full moon. Instead of a photo, here is a lovely poem for you.

I shall hope for less cloud tomorrow and perhaps a shot of the Snow Moon.

Tête à Tête, Poly Tunnels and Rainbow Chard

There was just one little Tête à Tête in flower near the shed, braving the bitter wind.

A very efficient team of three, today we planted all sorts of seeds for summer harvesting, such a positive and hopeful job. Seeds included lettuce, chillies, peppers, aubergines and tomatoes, several varieties of each. Not much photo opportunity there so I went for a walk around the poly tunnels to see how everything is coming on. Brilliantly is the answer. Many more braver Community Roots volunteers were out in the field, clearing ground and preparing for planting out later. I forgot to take a photo of the gluten free Lemon Cake I made which went down very well at coffee break..

A Film and Blossom

We have been to see “A Complete Unknown” again this evening as we loved it so much the first time last week. The soundtrack is wonderful, all the songs by Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Johnny Cash are such a pleasure to hear. Everything about the film is brilliant!

This beautiful blossom is on a tree down the road from us. I think it’s almond. It’s here for V with love.

A Book, A Poem and New Gloves

Last week I told you that I had bought a beautiful new book, “What you are looking for is in the library’ by Michiko Aoyama, and I have just finished it. It has been an absolute joy. I wholeheartedly recommend it as a relief in these difficult times. It’s a bit of magic in a troubled world.Here is a short poem which I really love taken from the story:

I like to wear fingerless gloves at choir so that I stay warm but can still hold the words when I need them. I bought some new ones but although very cosy, they were very boring so I have embroidered them to make them pretty.
