Stithians Show

11 Jul

We haven’t been to the show before and we’ve been missing a treat. I went this afternoon with our lovely neighbour, mainly to collect exhibits sent in by allotmenteers and to collect their prizes. There were a few firsts and some second places!
Wikipedia describes the show thus:
“Stithians Show takes place on the day after Feast Sunday in the village of Stithians, Cornwall. It was first held in 1834 and is recognised as being one of the largest one-day shows in the United Kingdom, regularly attracting in excess of 20,000 visitors, exhibitors, competitors, traders and entertainers.”
Here’s a small selection of the treats on offer.

It was. I really want to go earlier next year to be properly involved. Lots of us had entered things we’d grown at the allotment and there were several prizes – for best artichoke, best squash and second best shallots! 🙂

This show looks just like our local show, Minsterley Show, which happens every August. These traditional shows are such fun as well as being so important to local community cohesion.

There was and we went in really late (It’s free after 4pm, £30 at the start) so we missed the horse, the bands, the sheep and the craft tent and much more. Next time I think I’ll go for 3 pm when the entrance is halved so £15. 🙂
