A Celebration of Women

10 Jun

What a fabulous afternoon being a part of celebrating the Centenary of some women getting the vote! We all gathered in Mawnan Smith – The Mawnan Smith W I, singers from my choirs, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows and many supporters and we marched along to Trebah Gardens, singing some of the way when we had enough breath! We finished in the amphitheatre  and sang for all the wonderful people who had joined us along the way. Such a wonderful feeling of solidarity, such a deep feeling of community and an acknowledgement that there is still some way to go and that we must carry on where our sisters have fought before. That last picture is wonderful. If it was in black and white you could mistake it for being taken in the times you are commemorating!

Nice idea. I shall play with the photo and try it in sepia and B&W and maybe add it to the post. 🙂

So lovely to see you all dressed up, mar ching and singing. I’d have loved to be there!

You all look fab, yes tomorrow you take over the world. Fun aside, amazing and great celebration! And there are still plenty of women who do not exercise that right, shame. Noticed it at the last election, when some came in voting for the first time.

It was interesting talking to passers by (sometimes as we marched past their stationary cars in the country lane we were going along!) and some knew what we were doing; some professed to know nothing of the Suffragettes or the Suffragists, even when they were of quite an advanced age! We spread the word as we walked and spoke of other injustices that still need work – equal pay, child poverty, the refugee situation. It was a fabulous occasion, wish you could have joined us. 🙂
