Redruth Inland Arts Festival, Gardens and A Dragon

There are all sorts of installations around our town for a three day Arts festival with the title, The Future Project, and today we made a start on discovering what is on show.

Our first stop was the Indoor Garden installation by Sue Hill and the Live Wires, with us for a few days, had a brilliant time making tray gardens which are now in the front window of the erstwhile empty shop, much to their delight. They had so much fun in the workshop that all our time was used up. We will have to return tomorrow!

On the way home up the hill J noticed the dragon finial on a neighbours’ house and asked if he could take the photo himself.

Walk on the Beach

What a glorious Autumn afternoon, just the time for a gentle walk on the beach at low tide having had to miss singing this morning.

The very old engine house, Wheal Coates with a vapour trail behind.

This pool seems golden with the reflection of the cliffs in the water.

What a delightful find.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Local

We are very lucky in having this beach as our local – Chapel Porth on Cornwall’s North Coast. It takes us about twelve minutes to get there and today it was just perfect for a long walk at low tide. We both feel at home here. It’s just the best place to straighten out any kinks!  For others in this week’s challenge see this link https://dailypost.wordpress.com/photo-challenges/local/

Rose, Cathedral and March of Hope

There is a beautiful lone rose on our climber, really delicate with the sun shining through.

We visited Truro Cathedral today to see the March of Hope for Peace stand. It wasn’t inside but as we were walking through we heard The Celtic Benediction being said, a beautiful wish for peace. Both my choirs sing a version of this and it is very lovely.

Deep peace of the running wave to you,

Deep peace of the flowing air to you,

Deep peace of the quiet earth to you,

Deep peace of the shining stars to you,

And deep peace of the sun of peace to you.

Inside Truro Cathedral.

The map shows where events have been taking place over the last two weeks, people coming together to show solidarity and to march for an agreement. Enough is enough.

Buttons, Tinners’ Hounds and Ferns

I discovered a new shop in town today, The Craft Collective, where most things have been made in Cornwall but not all – there were some gorgeous African buttons  made by Thalia-Mai Nero.

I have shown you our Welly Dogs before but I love them so much, here they are again! Made by David Kemp, they are really called the Tinners’ Hounds and were fashioned from miners’ boots and then cast.

Walking home I found ferns on a wall, and a lone lost bloom on the path.

Bracken, Beach and Sunlit Leaves

I had a lovely lunch out with good friends today and on our drive home, as we came over the brow of the hill was this beautiful view. I just had to pull over to get the photo of Portreath through the bracken.

Singing was excellent this evening and in a momentary break I noticed the sunlight on a young tree outside the door. I love how the rusty scaffolding colour is echoed in the leaves. Three minutes later, the sunbeam and the colour were gone.

Spiders, Opera and Tarte Tatin

These spiders are glass! They have been made by our very talented nephew, an artist in glass, in Jerome, Arizona.

Created by Mark Galen Lucas

A couple of nights ago we went to see Verdi’s Nabucco at the Hall for Cornwall and loved it.

Here is the Plum Tarte Tatin ready to serve.

Purple, White and Plums

The pink bud of the Tibouchina Urvilleana that I showed you a couple of days ago has opened into a beautiful purple bloom in my Suffragette garden where white Japanese Anemones are also in bloom.

Plums are delicious at this time of year. Here is my Plum Tarte Tatin awaiting its pastry. It is still in the oven…..

Dahlia, Calianthus and J R R Tolkien

There are still some blooms in the garden.

Calianthus with some Kaffir Lilies in the background.

We are going to see some friends tonight where merriment  will be on the menu!

Weekly Photo Challenge – H2O

We have been planting bulbs this week and today I noticed the discarded outer layer of one on the grass. Trapped underneath were some droplets of water making for a beautiful shot.
