Heritage Tomatoes, New Recipe and Garden Bouquet

We are loving our Redruth greengrocer, Grow Box, saved from closure by local traders. Today, among other things, we bought some beautiful, locally grown Heritage Tomatoes.

I needed them in particular for a recipe I had just read in today’s Feast that comes on Saturdays with our Guardian newspaper. Here is the Tomato and Courgette Loaf with Tomato Chutney. This afternoon I met with our lovely neighbour for  a cup of tea in the garden and we each had a piece of the loaf and both declared it to be delicious.

It’s so lovely that we can still find beautiful flowers to bring indoors. Here we have some Jasmine that we pruned yesterday, some Fuchsia that we have pruned today and a Calla Lily that has been broken by the wind.

If you read yesterday’s post and wondered what the creature was, I have added a P.S. to the post with the id that came today from the Royal Entomological Society!

A Very, Very Good Day!

Today, our eldest daughter has come to spend the day with us, the first time since lockdown – and what a day we’ve had. She arrived in her best car, an Audi A8,in glorious red to celebrate our day together.

We went down to Chapel Porth, a family favourite and almost had the beach to ourselves.

We bought Cornish pasties for lunch, of course, and after lunch sat in the sunshine in the garden enjoying each other’s company.

M, like me, has a passion for making and story telling – it runs in the family. She has made some lovely 3D pieces for us and this evening has made a new button for our loo. It was lost some years ago and today, M has 3D printed us a new part. She brought her 3D printer down especially to do this job and it has been fascinating to watch the whole process.

Above is the prototype starting to be printed and the final piece is below.

The only one like this in the world!

To celebrate further, I made a new recipe, Blueberry and Cream Cheese Crostata and it was truly delicious.

Craft Collective, Front Garden and A Special Dinner

This afternoon I went into town to The Craft Collective as I had heard that they were going to be knitting pink Pussy hats in preparation for any visit by POTUS No 45. As well as the ticket buying wool, pattern, needles and unlimited wonderful snacks, more than half of the money was being collected for  Cornwall Women’s Refuge. You can find out more about the charity here. http://www.cwrt.org.uk/  What a pleasure to spend a creative afternoon with like-minded people!

Coming home I was delighted by our own front garden!

Our eldest daughter is with us for the weekend for her birthday so I have cooked up a storm, the main course of which was spectacular and delicious. It is Yottam Ottolenghi’s Duck with Blackberries, Ginger and Star Anise and it went down very well! We had the Duck dish with a mash of Carrots, Potato and Sweet Potato and some Crispy Garlicky Kale.
