New Year’s Eve

I have felt very loved and cherished today with all the cards, presents, treats and messages from family and friends including our Ukrainian friends. Our three Live Wires in Barcelona sang Happy Birthday for me in English, French, Wolof and Catalan. Our lovely neighbour brought round some Turkey Thai Green curry and I am beginning to feel a bit brighter – who wouldn’t with all that love pouring in?

Exquisite piece by Daisy of Hedge Crafts Studio, about 4″ square

Birthday card from the lovely Mr S, just 2″ square

And for you Dear Readers, these words from Neil Gaiman.

Nadiya Volodymyrivna Martynenko

This beautiful peaceful picture by a Ukrainian artist turned up on Facebook today.

Nadiya Volodymyrivna Martynenko – Ukrainian artist

I have been in touch with the artist who says that she doesn’t make any prints of her work. She only sell originals.

This is my fourth day of being laid low by a nasty virus that attacked the whole family but one Granddaughter over Christmas and over the last few days.
Regular service on MBT will resume as soon as possible!

Isambard Kingdom Brunel

And so the journey is ending. The statue of Isambard Kingdom Brunel is on Platform 8 at Paddington Station where we caught our train this morning, for a five hour journey home.

Jolabokaflod

Jolabokaflod, meaning Book Flood,  is an Icelandic tradition where books are given as gifts on Christmas Eve and everyone spends the day snuggled up with their book. For various reasons we couldn’t do this on Christmas Eve so did it today and peace reigned for about 15 minutes! Some people read for hours….

Here are the books about to be opened……. Wrapping paper either from Who Gives a Crap or the inner page photo from Guardians that we have saved over the year.

Boxing Day Birds

On our walk today to nearby woodland we saw first two Red Kites, (Hard to photograph), Egyptian Geese – a pair and several Mallard Ducks, the males with beautiful iridescent blue heads.

Happy Christmas to All My Dear Readers

Here’s an Angel for Ukraine for you all to wish you peace and happiness.

A Christmas Carol at The Old Vic

What an amazing production!

Before the play began

We oohed and aahed, we laughed and cried, we gasped at the originality and loved the singing and the handbells. Owen Teale had played Ebenezer Scrooge and at the end, when the standing ovation was over,  he made an impassioned  speech about Dickens being moved to write the story by seeing the poverty all around him and how awful the poverty is now in Britain in 2022. He asked the audience to support a charity that is helping to feed people in need, City Harvest.

Seagull, Random Photo and An Angel

Our last singing session at the Zed Shed was today and this photo of a seagull on a buoy was taken when the sopranos were learning and I wasn’t needed.

I read this lovely heart-warming story about a man and a baby the other day and have been given permission to use the photo and to tell you the story, by Artistic Freedom whose page it was on.
“Random photo of a man at the DMV holding a baby. The man does not know the child. They are strangers to each other. The parents of the child were sitting next to the man and the baby, feeling squirmy and discontent, crawled into the man’s lap.
The man had just moved from one state to another, where a year prior his brother was killed. This baby was born on that very day. Everyone was overwhelmed to tears.
NO HATE ❤

A Christmas card has arrived. It comes from one of our beautiful Ukrainian friends who is safe in Sweden. It is a beautiful Angel, made from delicate curve stitching and we love it. Thank you N.
