A Christmas Carol at The Old Vic

24 Dec

What an amazing production!

Before the play began

We oohed and aahed, we laughed and cried, we gasped at the originality and loved the singing and the handbells. Owen Teale had played Ebenezer Scrooge and at the end, when the standing ovation was over,  he made an impassioned  speech about Dickens being moved to write the story by seeing the poverty all around him and how awful the poverty is now in Britain in 2022. He asked the audience to support a charity that is helping to feed people in need, City Harvest.

Merry Christmas, Sally. Glad you enjoyed the performance.

Have you seen The Man Who Invented Christmas? It’s based on Dickens during the writing of A Christmas Carol. It’s an interesting watch ~ very imaginative watching him grab up bits of dialog from his daily life.

    Quick synopsis:

With his most recent books having little success, Victorian novelist Charles Dickens finds himself obliged to self-publish his masterful fable “A Christmas Carol” — which he hopes will revive his sagging career.

Cast Dan Stevens, Christopher Plummer, Jonathan Pryce, Justin Edwards, Morfydd Clark, Donald Sumpter, Miles Jupp, Simon Callow, Miriam Margolyes, Ian McNeice, Bill Paterson, Cosimo Fusco, Annette Badland, Ger Ryan
    Director Bharat Nalluri
    Moods Witty, Imaginative

Thank you for this, like lots of the actors and like the sound of the story. I shall seek it out. 🙂
