My Dear Sister-in-law sent me the following: “I saw your beautiful ring on the blog and I thought you might like to see this remarkable and well chosen gravestone at Oakland Cemetery. (photo posted on findagrave.com) At age 12, Olivette Eugenia Smith Allison (1923-2010) was sent to the Steele Pitts Home for abandoned, abused, orphaned and neglected children in Atlanta (founded 1888.) She subsequently graduated from Atlanta University with a degree in social work and began work at the Home in 1950. She served as director from 1976 to 2009. The marker was chosen because elephants never abandon an orphaned calf. It was estimated that Ms. Alison cared for approximately 5,000 children in her career.” My dear friend Angie would have loved this.
