Not what you expected but your frayed birch brought to mind a campfire recipe. Wire basket, birch bark frayed or otherwise, fresh cut young cedar boughs and baby beets (red is fine yellow divine) over a open fire till cedar reduced to ash, slice warm caramelized beets, some cut cubes of feta , drizzle with olive oil, and a grind or two of sea salt then dine.

I particularly like your photograph of the Silver birch bark, it does look frayed and vulnerable. 🙂 The grasses look amazing too.
