Fingerless glove, Colourgirl and Deborah’s turtle

1  Mr Smith had the bright idea that a fingerless glove might keep my arthritic wrist warm without restricting movement as the wrist splint does so I downloaded a pattern and knitted one this morning. Brilliant! It’s helping.

2 The Colourgirlz started work on the front door. Veronika worked so hard and already there is transformation – ugly wallpaper gone and  undercoats on front door and porch woodwork.

3  Deborah had an encounter with a turtle:

”  I had an amazing close encounter with an enormous sea turtle yesterday.  I was close, but at a respectful distance, and he swam over to where I was.  He blew bubbles for me and looked as if he wanted to climb into my lap.  He craned his head out of the water, getting as close as possible.  He felt so wise and ancient. I stayed with him for a long while, just communicating with him and loving him, what an incredible gift.  I attached a photo of him blowing bubbles!”

20/11/2011 Singing, Cornish singing, Love song

Yesterday was a day full of singing:

1 Flash mob singing in Truro – people from all 3 of Claire’s choirs came together for three flash mob events. It was a brilliant and uplifting experience. (We hope for a YouTube link at some point.)

2  Went with next-door-Sue to Hilary, Neil and Will’s 150th birthday party in a wonderful old house in Prussia Cove – music playing and lots of very Cornish singing that was great fun to join in with. Took them a carrot cake with 150 stars!

3  At the same evening, was introduced to Rory Mcleod, a fabulous musician and singer. I loved his stuff especially the love song he did for Will and his partner.

Piano, Support and Friends

1  Struggled to get a piano piece right today and started a Grade 1 piece that is really hard!

2  Having confessed to feeling ‘a touch of the blues’ yesterday, I felt the support winging my way. Thanks to you all.

3  Had friends round for dinner – a lovely relaxed evening full of gentle humour.

Singing, Spiced carrot cakes and Skype

1  Fabulous singing session with Claire this morning – so uplifting. It cured a headache and a touch of the blues. Just the best therapy ever.

2  The Spiced apple cakes went down well this morning; some people said, ‘Thank you,’ which was lovely.

3  Skype with the Grandchildren is such a lot of fun, just to watch Jake playing and Tabitha reacting is a delight and we get to chat with KJ.

Aromatherapy, Blue-tits and Bookshelves

1  Showered this morning with geranium, patchouli and ylang-ylang oil that  reminded me of spa days spent with my lovely Mum years ago.

2  The blue-tits are back feeding again. They’ve been very wary of the new feeder but seem to have decided today that it is okay. There were 4 there at one point.

3  The new shelving is almost ready for its next coat of paint. Mr Smith has been meticulously filling and rubbing down and it’s all looking good!

Fuschias, Carrot cake and Grandchildren

1  Fuchsias still in bloom, absolutely lovely.

2  My Thursday choir is two years old this week and I’ve just spent a delightful afternoon baking dozens of American Spiced Carrot buns to celebrate. I’ll put the icing on half of them tomorrow.

3  My lovely daughter in London sent us a photo of our two grandchildren wearing their new jumpers made by my Sister-in-law in Atlanta. Gorgeous, of course.

Passion, singing and loss

1  White Passion flowers still in flower mid November and quite beautiful.

2  Singing with the Inglehearts in Troon, wonderful heartwarming peals of song but I miss the ‘phone-a-friend’ moments when I used to send my favourites to my best friend Kath who died in October.

3  Looking round at the choir tonight, all in our black-and-reds for a press release photo and thinking, “My, we scrub up well. We look good!”

Spring bulbs, atheism and food.

1 Planted lots of bulbs for some beauty next Spring – 50+ grape hyacinths and lots of Tete a Tete miniature daffodils. Should be lovely if they look anything like the packet!

2  This made me laugh out loud! Thanks to my friend, John, for sending it to me.

3  Finally got a date sorted to see friends we’ve not had round for months. Now to sort out a delicious veggie dinner.

Spider’s Web, Cornish Fairings and train tickets

1  Spider’s web covered in dew with the sun shining through at 7am – went out in my pj’s to get this one!

2  I baked some Cornish Fairings this afternoon,  haven’t made them before and they had a strange instruction – ‘Bake for 10 mins, then remove the tin, bang it on something hard to make the fairings split and spread and return to the oven for 5 more mins.’

It worked! They look just like the real thing!

And they taste good too.

3   Booked train tickets to go up to London for a visit to the theatre with Jake, our  Grandson. We’re going to see ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ to celebrate his  3rd birthday.

The moon, Truro Cathedral choirboys and a double moonbow!

1  Driving to Truro this evening, the moon was a glorious, huge white disc in the sky. There was hardly a need for headlights, it was so bright.

2 The sound made by the choirboys as they sang in tonight’s concert in the Cathedral for last year’s flood victims was just truly beautiful.

3  I came home to this message from my Sister about a moon-bow – I didn’t even know one could exist!

“Oh Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!! How wonderful this place is (enhanced by a true, loving relationship.) Last night we went to a field of lava, covered with incredible petroglyphs. There we watched the sun set and the moon rise. We were blessed with the incredible vision of a moonbow. It is like a rainbow, but it created by the light of the moon. It held the full spectrum of colors, but muted to a gentle hue due to the source of light. At first it was just a small part of an arc, but as we watched, it became a complete arc circling the sky, and then, even more of a miracle, there was a faint echo of yet another arc around the first. A double moonbow! What a blessing, what a gift. I love this new home of mine and am filled with gratitude for my life.”

Thank you, Deborah, for this beautiful mind-picture.
