Jacket, Broccoli and Painted Biscuits

I wish my patchwork jacket were as bright when dry!  My special friend, Kath, for whom this blog is written, had one of these jackets too.

The veins on the Purple Sprouting broccoli are turning purple.

It is a year since Jo Cox, MP,  was murdered and in celebration of her belief that we have more in common, many, many people are taking  part in The Great Get Together this weekend.  We will be in London and will be unable to join in with our local Allotment Society’s Barbecue Get together so this afternoon I have baked some biscuits to be taken down as our contribution to the party. I found the flower cutters a few weeks ago and saved their first use for these painted biscuits.

Baby Bird, Chicken and Honouring Jo Cox

We are seeing many birds at our feeders, two Woodpeckers this morning and later three baby Blue Tits. What a delight.

We went to Kehelland to buy more compost for planting in. I love to see the chickens roaming free there and the eggs are delicious.

Today would have been the 42nd birthday of the MP Jo Cox who was murdered on the streets last week. People all over the UK  and, indeed, all over the world, held special ceremonies at 4pm in her honour. There was no ceremony near us so we made up a bouquet of purple, white and green from our garden and took it down to the beach where we spent a few moments reflecting on her positivity and her saying, in her Maiden speech in the House of Commons, the following:

“We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.”

And, the strangest coincidence….  Today is also the birthday of Bernard Kenny, the
77 year old man who was hurt trying to help save Jo.

Garden Flowers, Vigil and Words

Our local Labour Party arranged vigils today for Jo Cox, the MP who was so cruelly murdered last week. We picked a bunch of flowers, Lupins, Daisies, Fuchsia and Rosemary, from the garden to take with us to Camborne this lunchtime and were very moved by the small and beautiful ceremony that was led by our Conservative MP.DSCN2269DSCN2276

The following inspirational words are from Jo’s husband, Brendan Cox:

‘Jo believed in a better world and she fought for it every day of her life with an energy, and a zest for life that would exhaust most people.

‘She would have wanted two things above all else to happen now, one that our precious children are bathed in love and two, that we all unite to fight against the hatred that killed her.

‘Hate doesn’t have a creed, race or religion, it is poisonous.’
