Train Journey, Knitting and Grandbabies

My iPad wouldn’t let me write text yesterday hence the rather brief entry.

1  We had  beautiful journey up to London starting with mists in the valleys through Cornwall then such a blue sky for the rest of the way.

2  That meant five hours to read, chat, knit one of a pair of bootees and do the crossword. Bliss!

3  When we arrived at Woodside Green tube station and before the train had left we could hear a little voice calling, “GrannyGrandgrand, GrannyGrandgrand!” and as the train drew way we could see Jake with his Daddy. There’s something very special about being a Grandparent.

Happy Christmas, Porthtowan and Senegal Calling

1  It wasn’t an early morning! Jake slept until 8am and then rustled and chatted while his Mum and Dad listened at the door! Jake was pleased the oats had gone.

2  After present giving , we went for a very windswept and welcome walk on Porthtowan Beach and had a late lunch. Lots of help from Lucy and her friend Mobin (who is spending today and tomorrow with us) was very welcome indeed. We used some of Mum and Dad’s Wedding present china for the bread sauce and the gravy, as we do every year, so that they are with us for Christmas dinner.

3  Daniel called from Senegal and we all spoke to him and to Ami, which was lovely.  We’ll all have to brush up our French before the wedding!

Mincepies, Mini Christmas and Silly Games.

Giving out the presents

1  I spent a busy and productive morning making mountains of mincepies of all sizes and  many, many mini sausage rolls and cheesy whirls.

2  Our lovely eldest daughter has come home today to be with us just overnight so we’ve had a mini Christmas afternoon, exchanging presents. Jake made a splendid present deliverer. Dinner in Mikki’s honour was the wonderful Flemish Beef.

3  Just as we were finishing our meal, Daniel, our lovely son rang up from Barcelona. He’ll be in Senegal for Christmas with his fiancee, Ami. He must have heard the toast to him and Ami we had just made!    We are about to sit around now with our mulled wine and play games, both grandchildren being safely tucked up.

Grandchildren, Hailstones and Kea Plums

1  Just had three days with family in London, so many delights, too many to mention but here are the little monkeys! They both loved ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ and so did we! They are also modelling Granny’s knitting!

2  Tremendous hailstorm today with the blackest of clouds followed by sunshine and a glorious double rainbow over Penryn as I was driving home from Falmouth after a lovely meeting with fellow Humanists.

3  Clearing out the freezer ready for Christmas and decided to make more Kea Plumbrillo. The lovely little plums have been simmered and are now dripping through a jelly bag to be finished off tomorrow.

Train journey, Grandchildren and The Gruffalo’s Child,

Dear Readers,

We’re off to London for a few days to see the Grandchildren (and their parents!)  I’ll try to blog using my iPad but am not sure if I can add photos. I’ll be back on Monday evening if there is a gap.

Singing, Spiced carrot cakes and Skype

1  Fabulous singing session with Claire this morning – so uplifting. It cured a headache and a touch of the blues. Just the best therapy ever.

2  The Spiced apple cakes went down well this morning; some people said, ‘Thank you,’ which was lovely.

3  Skype with the Grandchildren is such a lot of fun, just to watch Jake playing and Tabitha reacting is a delight and we get to chat with KJ.

Getting started / November 1st

Sometime ago, my lovely friend Sue from choir, shared a link to a blog called Three Beautiful Things. I loved it, and the idea, and resolved to record three things every day that have given me pleasure. I decided to start on November 1st but it’s taken me until now to get up and running – but I have been keeping notes so here goes:

Tuesday 1st Nov

1  Delighted that our phone and broadband have been mended today. It has been surprisingly hard to do without.

2 We had a walk up to Wheal Coates, in cold bright sunshine. The sea was turquoise, waves were crashing beneath us and the raw energy in the air put springs in our steps.

3 We Skyped with our Grandchildren in London. For the first time, Tabitha, 7 months old, recognised us and beamed and clapped her hands with delight. She kept looking from one to the other and grinning. That gave us both enormous pleasure as it does to have delightful conversations with Jake. KJ gets the odd word in!
