2 I finished the tiny fingerless mittens for Grand-baby B last night and love how the size compares with the gloves of her Grandfather, the lovely Mr S.

3 Today I have used one of my Granny’s hand-embroidered tablecloths. She taught me to do all these stitches except the one that creates the hole. I would love to know how that works. She also taught me to iron on the back to make sure the design is properly in relief on the front.

I have done the holes. Mark the circle with chalk. I/8 inch outside of the circle, make a running stitch circle two times, one beside the other. Buttonhole stitch all around, going in at the chalk mark and coming out just beyond the circles of stitching. Join the end to the beginning. From the backside carefully cut away the the fabric from the center of the holes, being super careful not to cut any stitches. Trim any left over loose threads of the fabric. My mother had a floral lace tablecloth her mother had made using this method with taupe thread on cream fabric, Very pretty.

My great granny taught me the embroidery too. The holes are dome with variations on eyelet embroidery…

Did you also learns mocking? I made some pretty things for my daughters. I taught one of them to crochet and to sew but not to embroider. 🙂
