Beach, Car and Hyacinths

Daughter No 1 came to visit for the day to celebrate Christmas, New Year and my birthday, all missed for one reason or another so, despite the hailstones, the rain and the hoolie blowing, we went to the beach for a brief walk.

M always looks after my 18 year old car and today she gave it a really good clean and it looks brand new!

The Hyacinths I planted in the Victorian glasses are all now in flower and the room smells amazing. I love how the roots are all visible

Beetle, Book and Scent

Our eldest daughter brought my beautiful15 year old  Beetle home today. She has been caring for it over the lockdowns and now that I can go to choir again, has brought it home.

I have spent the day in the shade on this beautiful sunny day and have read a whole book, completely unable to put it down –  Helen Dunmore’s “Talking to the Dead.”   If you enjoy a taut, psychological story that keeps you guessing, this is for you. It left me stunned.

We walked down to the allotment to check on things this evening and were delighted by the perfume of the  Night Scented Stock, planted in abundance near the shed.

A Front Door, A Leaf and My Beetle

We took a different route through town today and came across this front door with its delightful wreath. I love the door bell too. Some of the last leaves to turn are these, Maples I think, on the lane home.

I haven’t driven my car for months and sorned (Statutory Off Road Notification) it as the first lockdown began as I knew I wouldn’t be going to choir for some time. Now that  it’s all happening again and there is little hope of singing for many months, my lovely Beetle has gone on holiday! Our eldest daughter has a workshop where she is going to keep my beautiful little car out of the elements for the foreseeable future and she will bring it back, I hope, next Spring…….

Delight and Surprise

My beloved Beetle has been away with Daughter No 1 for a couple of months being cherished and renovated and has come back today looking even better than when I bought her, two years old, eleven years ago. Absolute perfection!  I  am utterly delighted.

The roof hasn’t worked for many years – roll on Summer!

Just look at the wheels  and  the  finish  on  the  paintwork!

It is a joy to have my Beetle back and a joy to drive again.  Thank you so much, M, for your fabulous work.
