Sand Dollars, Rain and Light Balls

1   I was sorting through one of my treasure boxes today, one that I haven’t looked at for years and years and I discovered four beautiful sand dollars, three still hairy and one cleaned up by the sea. We collected them on Savannah Beach, Georgia, USA in 1980! They have been wrapped up in tissue paper for many years and it was a lovely surprise to see them again and to remember our walks along the beach. Click on any photo to see the delicate flower pattern. They really are the most beautiful things.

2   The garden is delighting in the rain and I like how the downpour has distorted the view from the kitchen.

3   I have loved these coloured light-balls ever since I first saw them in Truro some years ago and the other day we bought some! They are all connected up and now I just need to place them.

Through a Wet Window, A Sand-dollar and Sakura

1    We have rain today and our Spring flowers, Miniature Daffodils and Grape Hyacinths, look beautiful through the rainy window pane.

2     Doing a bit of Spring cleaning today, I came upon this lovely little sand-dollar on a top shelf. It’s over 30 years since our first visit to America to see my brother and we discovered the delicacy of sand-dollars on the beach near Savannah.

3   Our perpetual travel diary tells us that today is when the Japanese celebrate their spectacular Cherry Blossom, Sakura.    A bit of research shows me that the cherry blossom season last for some weeks but I wanted to share the beautiful poem that is on our calendar today.

From the deep hearts’ core
Of the spring serenity,
Splendid, resplendent,
A perfume has arisen –
The mountain cherry blossoms!

 Kamo no Mabuchi, poet
24 April 1697 – 27 November 1769

Wishing all my Japanese readers a beautiful and sensuous Cherry Blossom season.
