Blues, St Ives and The Tate

The sun shone today so we went to St Ives on the train. Just look at the vibrant blues of sea and sky!

Tide in as we walk into town

Just loved the Outi Pieski exhibition at Tate St Ives.

Duodji is a Sámi word meaning art, handicraft or home-craft. Outi Pieski created the beautiful ‘three-dimensional painting’ Beavvit / Rising Together Il with women duojárs (duodji practitioners) using traditional Sámi shawl-crafting techniques.

St Ives, Pages of the Sea and Peace

We’ve been in St Ives today for the Pages of the Sea event initiated by Danny Boyle to commemorate 100 years since the Armistice was signed and WW1 came to an end. It was one of thirty such events on beaches around Britain today. My choir was singing. Several of us wore white poppies which symbolise two important things. The white poppy is to remember ALL the dead, those of all nationalities caught up in the horror of war as soldiers or civilians and to show our commitment to working for Peace.

One of the soldiers being remembered today and, on the back, a beautiful and very moving poem written for today by Carol Ann Duffy

Other beaches in Cornwall had sand drawings of soldiers too.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Work of Art

We visited Tate St Ives today. Here are two photos – the first of Art in Architecture as Porthmeor Beach  is reflected in the curved glass of the award- winning gallery, and second, the same beach  seen directly  as Art in Nature. It is stunning either way on a gloriously sunny day as we caught it between the showers.
