March, Narcissi and A Song

March has lived up to the words of Charles Dickens in Great Expectations – as well as the rain, we have experienced delightful apricity and bitter winds,

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. ~ Great Expectations

I’ve brought some of our narcissi in so that they don’t get too battered by the rains, hail and wind!

We have been  learning the following beautiful song, The Lost Words Blessing,  with both my choirs. There is no session this coming week so I thought I’d share it with you as I have been listening to it today, trying to learn it all by heart. .

The following words are taken from the YouTube version. Do click on it to read the rest.
Spell Songs is a musical evolution of both The Lost Words & The Lost Spells books by acclaimed author Robert Macfarlane and award-winning illustrator Jackie Morris; featuring the multifaceted talents and collaborative genius of Karine Polwart, Julie Fowlis, Seckou Keita, Kris Drever, Rachel Newton, Beth Porter and Jim Molyneux. A Christmas Carol, Pancakes and Buds

I have never looked closely at one of the books, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, I inherited from my folks. Today I did and was delighted to find the dedication , a paper cutting and the delightful illustrations by Arthur Rackham. Enjoy the gallery.

I made so many pancakes yesterday that there were some leftover for Crepes Suzettes today.

There are lots of strikingly pink buds and some much paler open flowers on the Clematis Armandii.

Daffodils, More Daffodils and Phiz

In the town car park today, I spotted these little daffodils.

We have a ‘host of golden daffodils’ in our house. Last week, for the lovely Mr S’s birthday, our super neighbour brought in many bunches of Cornish Daffodils which have now all opened, all 58 of them!

On this day in 1812, Charles Dickens was born. We have a beautiful set of his works, illustrated by Phiz, the nom de plume of Hablot Knight Browne. They worked together for 23 years. These are all from Nicolas Nickleby.
