A Farewell and A Poem.

We said goodbye to our Dear Friend Ti, whom many of you have come to know through these posts. She celebrated her 105th birthday in May, met her Great Grandson in early July (the one for whom I made special SallyBoots) and died on July 21st.
We have shared so many lovely times with her, taken numerous garden posies and shared so many laughs and so much wonderful poetry with her. We were always amazed at her being able to remember poems from her childhood.. If you put Ti into the search on the right hand side of this post, you’ll find many lovely memories of our time with Ti.
It was a beautiful celebration of her life, full of love and warmth and my choir singing. I was asked to read one of her favourite poems which I did with love and pride.

Locally grown flowers, beautifully arranged and scented

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud  by William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
and twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
in such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
what wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Victoria Sponge, one of Ti’s favourites and my contribution to the tea and cakes served afterwards.
