Pollinator, Nelly Moser and A Poem

26 Apr

Bees, wasps, flies and many other little creatures act as pollinators and are responsible for much of our food. I learned at our allotment talk on Sunday that bees have four wings and flies only two. To me this looks like a bee but it appears to have only two wings…….

Our Nelly Mosers are blooming.

Brian Bilston, a poet I admire greatly, has, very generously, given his permission for me to post this gem here for you, Dear Readers.

My little grandson loves bumblebees, as he calls them. I read an article about leaving water for them to drink in the garden. We got an old tin lid of Bobby’s Grandad, put some pebbles in as recommended and added water. We placed it near the lavender Bush and it actually works 👍 Bobby loves watching them. Hope Mr S is recovering nicely. Take care both of you love Judith x

That’s a really good tip, thank you. I’ll do that when the sun shines again. Mr S is doing well, still exercising and walking more – getting there, thank you. Take care, love, Sally. 🙂

I did a little googling and think he might be a common carder bee – he’s certainly very handsome. https://www.cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk/wildlife-explorer/invertebrates/bees-and-wasps/common-carder-bee
I also saw Brian Bilston’s poem on Twitter this morning – it’s very clever. He’s a national treasure!

Wow, what’s the flower the bee is sucking from? I’m sure it’s a bee btw 😊 Very jealous of your clematis. They just don’t like me (or probably the north winds from the sea in my garden…)

That poem is something else again. Fantastic. 😃

I think it’s a Peruvian Scylla – and I’m pretty sure it’s a bee too. Wonderful plant isn’t it? I’ll post a photo of the whole plant for you tomorrow. 🙂
