April Garden 2 and A Bird

21 Apr

More garden flowers, lots of blues,  but before them, a very large bird that landed onto a post in the field behind. At first I thought it was a buzzard as we do see them around here but the colouring isn’t right. Any ideas, dear readers? The photos are rather fuzzy being on the longest zoom available.

Yes, I thought maybe a sparrowhawk probably a female which is much larger than the male. We’ve never had a buzzard. Scroll down on this link for a photo of a female

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_buzzard – your bird does look a lot like the one in this link!

Yes it does, thank you. It was a beautiful juvenile. 🙂

I think your handsome raptor is a buzzard – juveniles are often paler than adult birds.

Thank you. I didn’t know that juveniles are lighter in colour. Our bird book didn’t tell me that so thank you. 🙂

    Could be a sparrowhawk?

Looking at it on the computer rather than my phone, I think it is actually a buzzard, possibly a juvenile? We had one visiting our garden when the starlings were around!

I think this is so as two other people have suggested this too. Thank you for your input. 🙂
