Off to our favourite place for a celebratory meal tonight – where the food is scrumptious, the atmosphere warm and friendly and the service impeccable.
In the ladies loo there is a gallery of gorgeous men – double Steve McQueen along with Cary Grant, Robert Redford, Paul Newman and others! Apparently, David Beckham recently fell off the wall and is awaiting a new frame!

Haha, glad that Steve Mc Queen didn’t ‘escape’ – after Beckam hell of the wall….

Nice!
My first ”local” was called the Royal Oak. It was right next door to the Tesco Home n’ Wear store in Chester where I worked part-time during my final year at school.

My father was in the RAF and after several postings he promised mum that Chester would be the last stop ( he was based at RAF Sealand until he left the RAF and went to work as a Highway maintenance engineer for Cheshire County Council. We used to tease him about having his own broom and shovel! )
We moved there when I was 12.
My South African oddity is a bit corny I’m afraid, but here goes.
I came to South Africa on a years’ contract as a hairdresser for a company called Franco the King in Carlton Centre, Johannesburg.
I had the option of three contracts: Bermuda, A cruise ship, or Johannesburg.
My papers for Jo’burg came through first so I accepted the job.
I arrived December 19th after several delays at Heathrow because of snow!
Three months before I was due to leave Johannesburg I contacted a cruise company and secured an eight month contract on a ship cruising Scandinavia.
Seven weeks before I was due to leave a certain young woman walked into the salon and asked for a haircut.
I didn’t even want to do it as I had a luncheon appointment, with a friend but there was no-one else available. So I cut and styled her hair.
I’ll leave you to guess what happened …
But as they say, the rest is history!
Told you it was corny!

I don’t think that’s corny – I think that’s romantic and lovely. Your three contracts all had great attraction but it must have been a special serendipity that sent your Johannesburg papers first and then sent a certain young woman your way…… All the best to you both 🙂
