Maker Faire Atlanta

What fun we had today! After the Freedom Farmers’ Market at the Carter Centre, it was the Maker Faire in Decatur and we spent hours there fascinated by the variety of makers, from glass blowing to 3D printing, cigar box guitars and oil can guitars, children’s activities that inspired and excited, recycled making, wood turning and and just such imagination and innovation.

October 2005

We discovered this beautiful brick arch when we were updating the kitchen and loved the feature alcove we created here in our home in Yorkshire. The apples in the photo were all from our own tree in the garden.

National Poetry Day

The theme for this year is ‘Remember’.  I want to remember Dylan Thomas who was born 100 years ago this month. I love these words of his, not a poem but about poetry:

“Poetry is what in a poem makes you laugh, cry, prickle, be silent, makes your toenails twinkle, makes you want to do this or that or nothing, makes you know that you are alone in the unknown world, that your bliss and suffering is forever shared and forever all your own.”

I hope you can find a poem today that will make you feel something of the above.

October Colours

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”  These lovely words come from  Anne of Green Gables by L M Montgomery which I loved as a child.

Here is a gallery from our trip last Autumn around New England. Enjoy the beautiful Fall colours. For Shelagh with love and thanks for the visit.

I am taking a holiday from my blog while we visit family over the next month but I have scheduled posts with photos from Octobers past to arrive with you every few days. Hope you enjoy them. All the best to you all, my lovely readers. I’ll be back in November.
