It was so brilliant being on the water to see the Parade of Sail! The water was really crowded, everyone intent on accompanying the Parade of Sail as the Tall Ships from Poland, France, Holland, Portugal, Germany, Britain and more prepared for the Race to Greenwich. It was really exciting to be so close to these beautiful boats, to see their amazing sails and rigging and all the enormous numbers of sailors involved – and we had the most glorious day for it. All the headlands were lined with people, hundreds and hundreds had turned out to enjoy the spectacle. Click on any photo for detail. I’ve named the ones I can.
P.S. The estimate of visitors was in fact well over 100,000 and the flotilla accompanying the fleet the largest ever seen in Falmouth!

and – the St. Piran’s flag sail belongs to the “Spirit of Mystery”, out of Newlyn! did you follow the blog when she sailed to Australia a few years ago?

I can try to describe my delight in the images of sails tall and high. Since you where there and I was not it would lay round about 2/3rds of yours, which probably puts it somewhere close to ‘ecstatic’. Thank you.
I live in Ontario, though Nova Scotia has tallship festivals every year, not all do I see. However over the past 30 Halifax has entertained three mega gatherings, of which I have been lucky to attend the big ones.
