Blue Horizon, Dear Friends and Pumpkin Soup

1  Coming home from my piano lesson and coming over the hill from Lanner into Redruth, the sea in the distance was so blue. For many weeks the horizon has been grey with no visible sea. Today it was glorious.

2  Had a long phone call this afternoon with Charlie, husband of my dearest friend Kath whom we lost to cancer last year (I can’t quite bring myself to say ‘widower’ Why not, I ask myself?)  He, too, is learning the piano but he’s way ahead of me! We had a really good chat about family, music, friends and he says he’s doing okay…..

3  I’ve made a lake of Spiced Pumpkin Soup this afternoon, (thanks to Maggie, for the recipe) – some for tomorrow’s lunch, the rest to freeze away. It is such a beautiful looking soup! It tastes good too!

Buzzard, Daffodils and Dancing to the Beat of Your Own Drum

!  Driving to Falmouth this morning I saw , on my favourite tree, just through Lanner, a beautiful buzzard. There being no other cars around, I was able to slow down and have a good look. What a creature!

2  On the same drive I went past the open gate to a whole field of golden daffodils and then began to realise that several fields in the distance were also yellow with daffodils in flower. That made me smile.

3  In my meeting with Humanist friends where we were finalising the social and meeting programmes for the year, someone mentioned Henry David Thoreau’s words about marching to the beat of a different drum.

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.”

Piano Lesson, Baking and Friends

1  My piano lesson went well! Despite being away and not practising as much as usual I am beginning to find that I’m remembering pieces and finding them fun to play. I’ve started on my next Grade 1 piece today.

2  Lucy has baked a Banana Loaf using Katheryn’s recipe on her blog http://shelikesherfood.wordpress.com/2009/11/06/four-seed-banana-bread/       Lucy used half coconut oil and half vegetable oil and it is divine!

3  Lovely evening with friends whom we’ve not seen for far too long.

Piano, Support and Friends

1  Struggled to get a piano piece right today and started a Grade 1 piece that is really hard!

2  Having confessed to feeling ‘a touch of the blues’ yesterday, I felt the support winging my way. Thanks to you all.

3  Had friends round for dinner – a lovely relaxed evening full of gentle humour.

Sunday 6th November

1  Woke up to such a happy email from my sister who now lives in Hawaii – what a delight to hear such joy coming through.

2  I spent much of the day creating a casserole for a meal with friends, bit of a challenge as I can use no garlic, onions, leeks etc and it tastes delicious!

3  Went to the Shout at the Countryman in Piece, met up with lovely friends and had a jolly good sing.

Thursday 3rd November

1 After a half term of absence for one reason or another, I returned to my Thursday choir, The Suitcases,  and sang my heart out. I’d been missed!

2 I was put in touch with the friend of a friend who wants to do some volunteering so I was able to share some of our experiences and enthusiasm. That really was a treat and I hope I’ve inspired her!

3 I finished the bootees for the new baby. They look so cute!
