Weeds, Pinks and Purples

16 May

We’ve spent several hours weeding at the allotment  today – the first half of the onion/shallot bed this morning and the rest this evening. It’s looking better.

Oh yes I need to weed every day in the garden.

It can be quite a pleasing mindful task. There are lots of birds at the allotment and they make a delightful soundtrack to the weeding work. 🙂

Have you considered mulching? Keeps the weeds down, saves time and saves your back!

The whole place was mulched with seaweed back in the autumn and that is a wonderful weed suppressor as well as feeding the soil. We are finding the allotment quite hard work (not sure how long we’ll keep it) and so we have the two young gardeners who help at home doing a few jobs for us at the allotment. Sadly, they dug all over one of the plots prior to putting in the onion sets and that seems to have woken up all the weed seeds! It was actually quite a mindful task weeding and listening to the birds though I’d be happy not to have to do it again and mulching is definitely the way to go. 🙂
