Purple, Blue and Green

13 Jul

The Borage in the edible garden is dropping its lovely blue flowers onto the curly purple lettuce.

The bees love the Eryngium which is a cloud of buzzing blue this year.

We were given a little chili plant earlier in the season, (another allotmenteer gift) and it is doing really well in the poly tunnel.  I will have to ask for advice on when to harvest.

After seeing your Borage last year, I planted some seeds in a pot this summer. They look like they’re about to bloom!

I love the flowers but the plants are susceptible to wind as they get so tall and seem to have quite shallow roots. They will self seed all over the place too! 🙂

Harvest one and see what you think. When I grew chile peppers, I didn’t always wait for them to turn red . . . I used them green, red, or in between. ENJOY!

Thank you. Daft question coming up but I’m new to chilies… Do they get hotter the more they ripen? We like mild chill not take-the-roof-off-your-mouth chilies loved by our son-in-law! 🙂

Thank you. I think I’ll use them in the chicken and chill stew that our dear friend in Flagstaff treated us to on our last visit. 🙂

Don’t you find Borage grows far too big? Or is it just in my garden. It doesn’t help that the wind flattens it either, but the bees do love it so I am reluctant to pull it out.

Yes but I just pull out lots of seedlings. It’s only in the trough so very controllable here. 🙂
