Granite Block, Hard Work and Chicken Stew

25 Mar

We found the granite block in our garden when we moved in some thirteen years ago, somehow moved it out of the border and left it at the side where for a couple of years it served as a seat for little LiveWires. Those two are now twelve and ten years old and far too big for the stone settee and we want to dig a new sunny border.

I advertised it, found it a new home and then we tried to move it! After some hours, we decided that the thing to do was put it back but vertically and keep it. We have spent many hours and various techniques borrowed from the Romans, levers, rollers and ingenuity, and it is now in place. However, it’s too dark to take a photo so I’ll show you tomorrow.

Supper was a delicious Chicken and Hatch Chile Stew.

I never met a stone I didn’t like, and this one is a beauty. I have a two wheeler in the barn that is used for this type of thing. We have a large metal tamper and I pry it up and slide the two wheeler under it, and can usually move it where I want. I’m at an age and have a back that does not allow for moving stones by hand anymore. 🙂 Dinner looks delicious.

It is a beauty but we didn’t really appreciate it until we moved it. Now it’s just right. We tried the two wheeler but it wasn’t up to the task. Roman techniques worked, if slowly! 🙂

    Hatch chiles are the best!

Aren’t they? We cannot get them here but dear friends sent us some tins two years ago and I have spaced their use carefully, ! 🙂

I have a lot of granite stones in my garden including a very large flat one, there is no way any of them will ever be moved!

We had great expectations of our ability – bit daft really! 🙂

Even small granite stones are very heavy. Some of mine are like standing stones! They won’t be going anywhere!
