Shenandoah, Waterfalls and Wild Flowers

10 May

I am feeling pretty pleased with myself! We did a really difficult walk today down a gorge to see waterfalls and I coped really well thanks to Mr Regan, the wonderful surgeon who gave me two new hips. It took us almost three hours and after that we did a very short walk to an overlook where I stood on top of the world. There were lots of wild flowers including tiny violets, tall Goldenrod, little wild strawberry plants and what we think is a Pink Slipper Orchid.

As I was looking at the first pictures, I was about to say, “Prove It”. And then there you were on top of the world! 🙂 What a great feeling.

I know where to see a few Lady’s Slippers, or Moccasin Flower, in my woods every year. The Yellow Lady’s Slipper is much harder to find. You are certainly enjoying your second spring in the south. We are still experiencing night-time frosts here in Vermont, and snow in the mtns last night!

We have never seen one before so it was a real treat. We were very lucky with the temperatures, warm and lovely, not the heat we had expected. 🙂
