These words of Bertrand Russell say it all.
I have mentioned before that we are doing some research for a project about St Euny churchyard. This stone is our latest discovery and this is the first time we had seen music like this on a stone. Isn’t it lovely? Elsewhere on the stone are scattered notes and a b flat.
This little cartoon came my way the other day and made me smile!

Such a lovely post! If I would have headstone when it comes to that .. I would like some notes on mine too (that would sum me up) … Moonlight Serenade by Beethoven.

It is a beautiful headstone. I didn’t post the photo of the whole stone as he only died in 2014 and I feel I would need the permission of the family. I love Moonlight Serenade and am now thinking what I would have on my stone………. 🙂

I understand why you didn’t show the name on the headstone.
When I was a child I talked to the full moon all the time … and my mother always said that I was full of moonlight. The moon is my muse.
Interesting thought what note we should put on our headstone, because it will sum us up.
Image a headstone that would be able to play the music too. I really like that thought.

That is a wonderful idea! I think you will like the reason that I am studying the gravestones. I am working with a group to put on an event in May 2017 where we take groups around the graveyard, stopping to tell the stories of some of the ‘residents’. We have a musical director and I am hoping that she will make something of that stone but first we have to track down the family and find out his story – and get permission.
I love your story about moonlight. I love the moon too. I think you might like this post from a couple of years ago http://mybeautfulthings.com/2013/08/19/runner-beans-sunset-and-moon-rise/.
If you put Moon into the search on my page, you will see how often I photograph the moon and write about it! 🙂
