Day-Peep, Hyacinths and Bare Ivy Stems

07 Jan

1   Sunrise was particularly beautiful this morning. I love the straight line of the clouds and the sunbeams coming in from the left. The name in the title is what dawn used to be known as by farmers in the Eighteenth Century (as I have just learned from a brilliant book I’m reading called ‘The Horologican’ by Mark Forsyth about lost words of the English language)

2   These beautiful hyacinths were given to us for Christmas and are almost in full bloom and smell just lovely. The scent wafts all the way up the stairs. Aren’t they just the loveliest colour?

3    On a short walk down the lane this afternoon, energy levels being still rather low, I noticed this amazing leafless ivy in the shape of a tree all the way from the bottom to the top of the wall.

I like hyacinths very much also and hope some will soon come up in my garden.
Is ivy deciduous or could it be something like Virginia creeper?

Three pictures that make me think how similar and different everyone’s experience can be. A sunrise, we all have the best, yours as good as any, An inside plant; I’ve seen beautiful blooms in the grandest homes as well as in the shabbiest of abodes. As for walls, well, China my have the longest, the British Isles the most and the most charming, but here Canada we have hardly none.

I understand about the aroma of the hyacinths. Never smelled them anywhere but in a garden until this morning when I walked by the one sitting in my living room window. Wow, winter is just starting and it already smells like spring.

    Good morning! 🙂

I love the ivy stems, and the vibrance of those lilac flowers. And true: it’s a straight line of clouds!

It’s so, so wonderful how you highlight the beauties of each and every day, just beautiful, Sally.

I know I drop by randomly – it all has to do with work, and sometimes a bit overwhelmed with emails, etc – but I absolutely love coming here & seeing what you’ve seen, in the beauty of your days. You’ve got a truly wonderful blog.
